Sony 35" TV
Sony S530D DVD player (connected to TV via S-video)
Magnavox 2ch stereo system- Its about 10 years old and isn't as good as a newer model or a model with better electronics, but it beats using the TV speakers.

I'm feeling so inadequate now :(

Arsh bhai, unfortunately for those of us living here in India electronics is so very expensive. Also there is not much choice available as far as medium to high range equipment is concerned. I don't know if you guys know that we end having to pay almost two to three times as much as you guys pay for the same equipment. If you were to keep in mind the Rupee to Dollar rate with earning potential here, the effective prices for us here in India is almost 4 to 5 times of what you guys have to pay.
Coming to the issue of HDTV/Progressive, we don't have HDTV in India and I don't forsee it in my lifetime atleast, so that's that. As for Progressive, the only displays capable of progressive available here are the PLASMA monitors, which besides being way too expensive (Rs. 350,000 for a 40") is not a technology I believe in, atleast not yet.
Keeping the above in mind having or not having a progressive DVD player becomes a mute issue and aside from not outputting progressive the Sony S7700 is a very fine player. Although, since my player is now almost 3 yrs old, I am planning on buying a new DVD Player (the Pioneer Elite 47Ai - Progressive/DVD Audio/SACD) on my next trip to the US. By the way most of my equipment, I have acquired on my trips to the US, which is possible for stuff like a Receiver, DVD player etc. but a 60" Rear Projection would be kinda hard to fit in the personal baggage. :)
Waise bhai, there is one good thing about all this, atleast I don't have to be frustrated over all these non progressive Indian DVDs.
Angoor Khatte. :baaa:

hey sanjay...what is the largest size they have in tv up in india??? here in USA, we can go up to 100 inch....usually you see up to 85' in stores, but if u want more bigger, you can order it through their stores or their magazines....depends on the brand too....also, you said you purchase dvd players and stuff from here right?? how do u make it work, since we have SWITCH differences and the dvds that are made here, there is region differences...u know region 1, region 2 and so on....how much does it cost to get a DVD player up in india???? just curious cause when i go next time to india, i want to get a player up there so i was wondering if its good to buy from here and take it up there or just get it from one of the stores in there....also dont they charge extra tax for electronic equipments if u take it to foreign countries??? if i get a player for around $200 and when i take it up there, i might have to pay another $100 to take it out of the airport right??? thats what i heard....

Hello Sanjay: you say that there are no HDTV broadcasts in India presently. Well there is is'nt much available in Canada either. Although the CRTC has set a guideline/deadline that a conversion from standard broadcast to HDTV is to be completed by 2006.Going back to Prog Scan DVD players, if you are watching movies presently and your TV is also prog Scan you will benefit immensely from crisp clear picture quality.Presently I am watching regular TV on my 36" RCA and movies in my HT room in my basement on a 47" Panasonic HDTV.DVD Player & TV both prog scan.Last of all I would suggest that next time you go to the States look into getting a Projector. For example PT-AE100 which will soon be replaced by a newer version PT-AE200 Panasonic. They are very portable, price has dropped drastically and the PQ has improved to razor sharp images. In Canada the PT-AE100 retailed for around $4500 but if you shopped around you could probably pick it up for about $3500. In the States there is a much bigger market and deals can be picked up for even less.

Cost of Electronics equip is sky high in India. But, for people owning a PC, adding a DVD drive and Power DVD software (free from the net or share) costs peanuts. A PC screen is already there and is Progressive. If you want to watch on large screen, the only expense involved is a Projector for your PC (just like your PC monitor, this projection is Progressive too). LCD projectors are real cheap here in North America and because of Computer related, shouldn't cost much in India either.

My apology!! Sanjay!! I did not CONSIDER ur location in INDIA!! for their!! Your EQUIPMENT is certainly REMARKABLE!!

You have SONY 7700, DVD player..it was REF Quality INTERLACED player, still considered the best!! Now Prog players r cheaper than that SONY FLAG SHIP and r not that GOOD BUILT!!

REGARDING..display..U dont have to have HIGH DEFINATION tv available in INDIA, but u can get PROG CAPABLE monitor, LIKE a PLASMA TV, that is SVGA/XVGA, 480p and at least 720p capable!! and I heard those r available!!

What other REAR proj could be PROG COMPATABLE? I dont know? what kinda sets from SONY/MITSUBISHI/PHILIPS/ HITACHI r available there!! :baaa:
