first of all....is ur tv 80cm or 80 in?? it better not be 80 cm...that would suck!!! :D second of all, it's rear speakers not rare. and last but not the least, a subwoofer makes a HUGE (AND I DO MEAN HUGE) difference!!! I usually keep my subwoofer turned off when not in use. But when i turn on a dvd, i can immediately tell that something sounds wrong. i turn on the subwoofer and all of a sudden all this bass that you would never have noticed would come on and it sounds great! I have:

TV - Sony 34" XBR 800 Widescreen HD-Ready (looks perfect!!)
DVD - a regular panasonic dvd player (no component video output cause i got this when dvd players first came in the market)
Kenwood 600 Watts Reciever with Dolby Digital, Pro-Logic 2 & DTS
JBL 6-speaker system (100 watts x 5 & 100-watt subwoofer)
will get a progressive scan dvd player in about two weeks!

:p

dude, urbanlegend...do u like buy every hindi movie that comes out regardless of whether they're good or bad or what?! damn those are a shit load of dvd's man?? i'm sure there aren't THAT many good indian movies...unless they're all old movies or something? instead of buying so many dvd's...why don't u invest in a good tv and a decent speaker system?? just a suggestion....it's ok if u really like buying all dvd's so much :D  :p :baaa:

A/V Receiver - Denon AVR5800
DVD Player - Sony S7700
Laser Disc Player - Pioneer CLD-D704
Speakers:
Front L/R - Paradigm Reference Studio 100
Front Center - Paradigm Reference Studio CC
Rear L/R - Paradigm Reference Studio 80
Rear Center - Paradigm Reference Studio CC
Sub Woofer - Paradigm Reference Servo-15
TV - Thomson Diva 32" Widescreen (16x9)

Q. Does a sub woofer really make a difference?
A. A subwoofer makes a huge difference. And this is irrespective of the other speakers you may have. The difference is greater in Home Theater/Multi Channel use than it is with stereo music. No Home Theater is complete without a subwoofer, after all they have a channel devoted just to the sub (the .1 in 5.1/6.1).
