HIGHER THE BIT RATE BETTER THE QUALITY JUST AN EXAMPLE I DID MISSIOM KASMIR AT ABOUT 3MBS WITH 5.1 SOUND AND FITTED ALL ON SINGLE DVDR IF IT WAS HIGHER BIT RATE I COULD NOT FIT THE WHOLE FILM ON ONE DVD-R
AS COMMERICAL DVDS ARE DUAL LAYERED AND DVDR ARE ONLY SINGLE LAYER 4.7GB

"original duplicated dvds" - maybe a contradiction! :;):

Depends how you duplicate them - there are many 1-2-1 copies of Indian DVD doing the rounds - all retains the original content and quality video & audio wise.

It's different when you 'copy' a DVD onto single layered disc then ripping & re-encoding is required which effects the bit rates. DVD-R is in effect single layered discs

YES!! Thats What I meant!! GENERALLY..REPLICATION, keeps the QUALITY INTACT, COPYING onto DVDR is a different story, and I think, that PROCESS is being used on these FAMOUS 2 in one dvds!!

Yes, the bitrate pretty much reveals the truth about how these 2-in-1 dvds are made. They copy the original dvds, but compress the feature in order to fit. However, and maybe it's just me, but these movies look pretty much like the originals (save for a bit more pixelation), i.e. they look pretty good for their bitrates, no? Was my description accurate: the quality looks somewhere between a good divx rip and an average dvd?

I think, I have previously QUOTED that!! even a GOOD , DVD based SVCD will look good and wont show any PIXELLATION/COMPRESSION prob on small(garden variety display). So..ENJOY, what you got!! :baaa:

Arsh, I am definitely pleased with the product, as they seem to be close enough to the original single-movie dvds. I wasn't looking for confirmation or affirmation of my opinions, just expressing myself, yaar! Take care,

Hasan

Its funny that we scream murder in case of many DVDs but are willing to accept the recompressed versions of the same DVDs copied from the same original DVDs that we screamed about. If they are plain replicated, meaning exactly exactly the same, or re-authored from film more intelligently, it is one thing, but copying with some degradation (not only recompressed, also much lower bit rates) in quality is un-acceptable.
If its the low price that makes them acceptable, then BABA DVDs should be deemed acceptable as well.

Rana,

Well, based on what I read about these baba titles, I think these 2-in-1 dvds look pretty much like the original (with slight pixelation) dvds, despite the lower bitrate. Aren't baba titles supposed to be REAAAAAAAAAAALY bad? Look at the screen shots for one of the 2-in 1 dvds, and compare the two? I have not seen screen shots for baba titles, so I cannot say. So, I don't think some slight pixelation (which, for me, is only noticeable if I park my face right in front of my laptop display) is unacceptable, especially if it looks pretty much like the original. Same thing with divx rips, they look pretty good considering the file size and bitrate, and so I don't find them unacceptable, but rather, they are completely watchable (if they are around 600 megs or more). Take care,

Hasan

I was wondering if these were re-authored from film more intelligently than the official release DVDs.
Looks like they have been re-authored from original DVD but intelligently. Because of "intelligenly done", PQ is almost the same as orig despite bit rate constraint.

I wish one day somebody could do this intelligent re-authoring from Film instead of from DVD.

Rana

P.S.
In my next trip to Toronto, I will pick up one of these 2 in 1 DVDs, specially the ones that were progressive originally. The thing to look for will be, are 2 in 1 DVDs of original progressive titles still progressive??

Arsh,

I checked the MDK/NTJNH 2-in-1 in windvd, and checked disc info, and it said the stream was interlaced. However, it also said the bitrate was 9.8 mb/sec!!! We know this is not the case, so I don't know if the interlaced thing is also incorrect. Are there any small utils or anything I can use to check this, without having to download the entire powerdvd?

Out of the many titles of 2 in 1 DVDs, the following titles were all progressive. NTJNH and MDK were interlaced. So, it will be nice to see if the following titles:

DDLJ / PARDES
MOHABATEIN / K3G
DEEWAR / TRISHUL

stay progressive when reauthored for these 2 in 1 DVDs.
