Hello all, the DVD thread for 'Devdas' is so cluttered that its getting really difficult to sift through the messages. I had a few questions for you guys that maybe I would get the answers to :

1) Is the 'Devdas' 2 Disc Set really worth buying ?

2) Is there yet another special edition of the film thats going to be released on DVD in the near future?

3) Does anyone have an idea of how many scenes in totality are 'new' on the DVD (ie. did not feature in the US/UK theatrical version) ?

4) As an owner of the 'Devdas' 2 Disc, would you recommend the official version to a prospective buyer, or would you 'stick with the unofficial', or would you wait till they finally got it right?

Thanks!

dude u sound like ur gonna buy a car or something! chill out...it's just a dvd. Obviously it's better than the pirate in terms of AV quality. if you haven't bought the pirate..then buy it. Of course it all depends on how much u like the movie. If you love it, then it's worth buying twice. If u would like to own it just cause it was popular, then keep the pirate. I dunno anything about the special edition but i'm thinking that there MIGHT be an American version of the dvd cause i read on rediff.com that sanjay was gonna release it here before the oscars. But if u can't wait that long...then buy it right now! :tounge: :p

Well, my DVDs are like my children and I choose members of my family very wisely. In any case, this is not some $8.99 DVD that I can throw away if I don't like, as I did with 'Gadar' when it turned out to be one of the botched Eros batch. Its over 20 bucks and I'd sooner get 3 DVDs from Columbia House with their new deal than spend money on a piece of crap.

By the way, anymore screenshots from 'Devdas'?

1) If you can get it cheap, then yes. If you are buying it for the special features only, don't bother, as you can just get the Curtain Raiser.

2) It is definitely possible, but I'd say that it would take quite a while.

3) Not that many scenes are new. There are a few notable additions here and there, but they probably don't exceed more than ten minutes or so. This surely doesn't contain the rumoured half an hour footage that was supposedly cut for the international print. Mind you, some of the background music has been altered.

4) As far as I know, the pirates have been crap. The official DVD doesn't have reference quality video and sound, but I'm very content with it over my unofficial copy. It depends how much you love the film. If you can wait until the possibility of a new one has passed, then do so.
