i agree i prefered the silent ending aswell..there are many excellent scenes which did not make it..

Chalo phir dhund laaye hum usi maasoom bachpan ko
So again we have found that innocent childhood
Jahaa sapna sajaya tha
Where we have made our dream
Jahaa bachpan bitaya tha
Where we have spent our childhood
Jahaa pero ke saaye me gurronda ek banaya tha
Where in the shadow of trees we made a house

slb has kept this ending in the international version and the silent 1 for indian audience...plus they were some scenes where slb thought indian audience would understand this so he choped it off like the childhood srk and ash scenes but it is there in the 155 min version...but unfortunatly it does not have dola re dola or bhari piya scene:(

the other deleted scene i will upload later is the scene with devdas father dying in the bed and paro is present and no devdas...i like that scene..

I don't understand why directors would want to cut out musical numbers for the international audience. One of the main reasons why I LOVE Bollywood so much is because of them. I feel they misunderstand the appeal and originality that these sequences are for film fans weaned on typical boring foreign films. They want a refreshing change of pace and song sequences like "Dola Re Dola" are what HAS to stay. If you cut certain things out of it, "Devdas" really would become no different than other flicks.

I watched it in the cinema in Birmingham then i bought a pirate copy from there aswell, when i took it home & watched it again i noticed quiet a few scenes were missing and others added!!

As well as the ones mentioned by Prince Naz.
I also noticed:

1) The scene where he's on that bridge shouting "I object, me lord"

2) The scene at his fathers funeral (funny as fcuk)!!

Why did they use this ending on the dvd? I mean, seriously... it's so ineffective relative to what I saw in theaters.

So the DVD is a different version than we saw in the theater? What are the differences? Is this the "international" version with songs cut?

This is pretty annoying. The reason I ordered the DVD is because I LIKED the theatrical release. They should at least give the option of seeing the original theatrical version.

Well, no, it's a combination. All the songs are still there. I have yet to watch the entire movie over again, but I hear it has some extra scenes and really is longer than either version.
