TEEN DEEWAREIN
Director: Nagesh Kukunoor Producer: Metalight Productions Music: Salim-Suleiman Starring: Juhi Chawla, Jackie Shroff, Nagesh Kukunoor and Naseerudin Shah
PREDICTED RATING: 6/10
The un-crowned queen of the Hindi silver screen, Juhi Chawla, makes a come back after taking a long break from the glitz and glamour of Bollywood in Teen Deewarein. The film also marks Nagesh Kukunoor's first Bollywood venture after tantalising us with his non-mainstream treats Hyderabad Blues, Rockford and Bollywood Calling.
The story follows Chandrika's (Juhi Chawla) ambition as a documentary filmmaker. She is particularly keen to make a film on three prisoners: Jaggu (Jackie Shroff), Ishaan (Naseerudin Shah) and Nagya (Nagesh Kukunoor). The three cell mates have contrasting personalities but share the same goal - freedom from captivity.
Chandrika's ostensible documentary allows the viewer to believe that her intentions go beyond that of making a simple film on three cell mates. As the film making progresses she also begins to build relationships with these intriguing men. Though there are three murders and three convicts, there is only one truth, and only one woman, Chandrika, can reveal that truth.
No studios or lavish sets for Nagesh. He opts to shoot the majority of the film at real locations, namely Hyderabad Jail. Teen Deewarein will face tough competition at the box office releasing alongside Anees Bazmee's Deewangee. However, Nagesh's different approach to film making will definitely put him in good stead. The film is slated to release on November 1st.
SCHEDULED RELEASE DATE: 1st November 2002
