Deewangee music gets a ROARINg review at indiafm!hmm!
Deewangee
By Joginder Tuteja
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam - Super hit Tera Jadu Chal Gaya - Average Devdas - Hit Shakti - Poor
If this had been a Arithmetic Progression , then the music prospects of Deewaangee would have stood as: Deewaangee - Hit
This has been the chronology of the music scores by Ismail Darbar. Now let us examine as to what extent do the arithmetic calculations work here. Written and Directed by Anees Bazmee who has given a super-duper hit romantic musical Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha in 1998, comes with an altogether genre - a thriller - the catch line reading - "Aashiquee Ki Nayee Hadh". A fresh combination of Ajay Devgan, Akshaye Khanna and Urmila Matondkar star in this Nitin Manmohan production who has given hits like Bol Rahda Bol and Army earlier. Salim Bijnori and Nusrat Badr write the lyrics and Ismali Darbar composes. Vaibhavi Merchant is the choreographer. As is rightly said - a task well begun is half done.
The album begins quite well with a beautiful number - 'Pyaar Se Pyaare Tum Ho Sanam'. Salim Bijnori's lyrics are first rate here and how one wishes that a newer location (PLEEEEASE-WE-HAVE-SEEN-ENOUGH-OF-SWISS-COUNTRY-NOW) would have helped. The song shifts from present tense to past tense with 'Pyaar Se Pyaare Tum THEY Sanam' - a solo by Sonu Nigam and as expected is a sad version of the same. A song that will be liked by mushy hearts. Another added bonus is an instrumental of this song. The best song in the album is 'Saat Suron Ka' which is a beautifully composed number that may be well mistaken for a track from a Subhash Ghai movie. The lyrics are superb and Kavita Krishnamurthy is in great touch. Udit Narayan is dependable as always. The number appears as a solo version again by Kavita Krishnamurthy and one is in fact delighted. A very soothing track.
The way a restaurant doesn't serve a chicken biryani without chicken, the same seems to be holding true for the music companies that probably do not release a music score of Ismail Durbar till it has a 'Dhol' song. Ya so here we go again with a dhol song - Dholi O Dholi by Babul Supriyo and Kavita Krishnamurthy. And surprise surprise - where we were expecting the least we get a nicely composed dhol song after a long long wait. Sultry voice of Sunidhi Chauhan excites in a slow and sensual - Yeh Taazgi Yeh Saadgi. A very good song taking into consideration that when it will have Urmila pouting on these lyrics, it will hold it's own special meaning. K.K is superb with Mahalaxmi in the duet for the same number, which has some good lyrics by Nusrat Badr. Overall, a good song.
'Saasein Saasein Hain' is another romantic duet by Sonu Nigam and Kavita Krishnamurthy which is also entertaining. 'Ai Ajnabi' by Sunidhi Chauhan haunts. Deewaangee gets a grand finale with 'Hai Ishq Khata'. Ignore the comparisons with 'Aayiye - Aa Jaaiyee' from Lajja picturised on Urmila w.r.t the costumes, sets, lighting, choreography, dance steps etc.etc.etc. and we have another chartbuster in hands. Jaspinder Narula sings a potential hit after a long time.
Let's be honest in the very beginning - "All the songs in Deewangee entertain". Ismail Darbar really makes a much desired balance between quality work and commercial aspect of an album. Composition is neither heavy duty as was the case in Devdas not is it too situational - as in Shakti. They are catchy, hummable and of good quality.
**** IMHO, the reviewer, is a bit off! calling TJCG as AVERAGE!! I personally think, TJCG was the MOST VERSTILE album, Darbar did ti;ll date!
the rest of all, have a PERTICULAR STYLE to them.
Shakti..I wont call it POOR! some of the songs r situational, but that does not make an album poor! If so, then we should call ZUBAIDA a poor sound track! hmm! but not at all, IMHO, ZUBAIDA will never be done again, kinda GEM! CRITICS were extremely UNFAIR to ZUBAIDA! too, and then LOBS also was ridiculed being situational.WELL!!
I'll sum Shakti to ABOVE average!! but if SONG picturization and film is UNSUPPORTIVE, nothing can save a sound track, e.g TJCG!
Now! finally.
DEEWANGEE!! 1st thing first..songs are not instantly HUMMABLE, but they grow on you. here, Darbar defied his regular style based rule!
Deewangee, is not instantly, hummable, but grows on u! here thinking GENRE of Thriller, it reminds me of Rehman,s PUKAR..the MUSIC was originally SOUNDED too slow, and Classical based, But went very well with the film.
Style wise, I will probably lump it with PUKAR, but still, edging PUKAR over DEEWANGEE!
This genre of ROMANCE/THRILLER..Darbar never worked with before..so he is different. There is a bit CLASSICAL influence, yes indeed, as the main character is a musician dancer, if i understand correctly!! so theme asked for it. but it is not all classical based like DEVDAS! or Mostly classicle/Folk based HDDCS! There is quite a bit variety here.
Title song"pyar se pyaare..starts the album with very melodious hummable number, and then it varies from there.
I agree with some CRITICS..Darbar should stay away from Dholi/Dhola number..but this one is again a GOOD number with GOOD BEATS.
Sunidhi Chuhan singing first time Ajnabee for DARBAR is RIGHT on top of her KINDA song.
Jaspinder Nirula's ISHQ KHATTA! is very instantly catchy..like JAN LEVA!
Kavita and SONU are forever DEPENDABLE for 2 DUETS they do.
The only nmber, that i kinda felt indifferent was "saat suron" Seemed too ordinary, rather special, the same raga based composition that have ben heard so many time in that kinda song.one I can remember..70s film" pat jhad sawan basant bahar" I think, Jeetendra/Rishi/Jaya Pradsha film. was very good. I did recently heard another simillar number, that I cant think on top of my head.
Overall!! Deewangee..shows mostly, FRESH different styleof DARBAR, that needs to GROW on you.
Another thing..each and every song, has such a different, verstile, music bridges and pieces in between, with diff instrumentation..they are a real pleasure to hear! and for best listening..U owe ur self CD based track..real wont do this job good!
Now if u CALL this album, very filmi?? I dont know! People called DEVDAS to difficult, too CLASSICAL! Shakti ..too SITUATIONAL!
What do u guys want? lols..ha ha! ???
