Ok guys let me break this info here.... I stand corrected vis-a-vis All EVP dvds....

I used Ganti's technique of Force weave on my PowerDVD player and guess what.. I get combing in the picture frames..when I advance them at a rate of 1/8X... Hence confirming the fact that they have been encoded in an interlaced fashion... and which my JVC-XV502SL gave a proper indication :)

Again I checked the recent EROS dvds like Humraaz and again combing was present... but not with an old DEI-EROS title like SHAAN (checked the song Jaanu Meri Jaan... Blurring is present...but no combing ! ) ....

Arsh will look into that...(unless someone beats me to that)..
Unfortunately, the screecaps for Kati Patang have vanished from the old forum site..as they were in my old website (I have since changed my ISP's) and hence I lost all those pictures.. I will try to upload them back again... (once i get hold of that dvd ! )

BTW!! still waiting for ur input on question of WORKABLE/Eng/Chinese/Japenese subtitles on DEEWANA MASTANA!!?

:baaa: :

I'm back from my weekend trip to Toronto.

On DM, subtitles do work but not from Menu.

From menu you are able to select any of the 3 languages, but the subtitles stay in English only. I didn't investigate if this is a necc. step, but now pressing the Subtitles button on my Sony DVD player's remote, all three languages (English, Chinese or Japanese) and "Subtitles Off" can be toggled back and forth.

It's not that you and I know Chinese or Japanese, it's just to figure out if we both have exactly the same DVD.

Now! Theoratically..Judwaa should be better!...not really!
Practically DEEWANA MASTANA is better PQ for viewing..that should be Worse otherwise!

Arsh,
There are only very few exceptions to the general rule of better quality with film based vs. worse quality with interlaced source/ authorizing.
I personally think DM quality would be the best one can get from an interlaced source. And Zudwaa might be one of the worst one can achieve even after using film sourced and authorized dvd. With very low bit rate and probably bad source it is on the low end on the scale.
I can only imagine how DM would look if they use progressive technique.

Thanks urbanlegend.

Am I right in concluding from the screen shots that:

1) SD version is anamorphic.
2) VS version is not anamorphic.
3)VS version is slightly stretched vertically.

Also, I wonder, if any of the two or both versions are in Film mode (24 count or Force weave combing test).

Thanks.

Rana

SD Version is not anamorphic at all...VS Version (from the shots) does look stretched unlike the SD version.

In regards to film mode or not, sorry I dont know the technicalities on that...still trying to figure out what it means ??? and how to find that info out.

VS KHAMOSHI is reviewed here:
http://www.zulm.net/modules....id=449.

VS version is different than SD as picture is stretched (slightly) in VS version and not in the , hard to find, SD version.

Most likely, the SD version should be in Film mode. Can't say anything about VS version.

Both are the same! Screen shots that urbanlegend took are slightly incorrect AR, they should be in a 1.33 frame instead about ~1.5:1 - when corrected they look the same – both with slightly stretched video. Video Sound DVD is not in film mode.
