I guess at this point all DEI DVDs are out of print since the company doesnt exist as DEI anymore, but I have been looking for certain DEI titles with no luck - maybe you guys could help me out -

1. Hum dil de chuke Sanam 2 DVD set - this one is becoming increasingly hard to find anymore. I dont have a copy and would like to obtain one from an online source.

2. Dil Se - The EROS one is horrendous.

3. Raja Hindustani - The flippable DEI disc is the one I am looking for - its sold out almost everywhere I've searched.

I have no idea if the DEI version of HDDCS is better than the Video Sound version. Should I just stick to my VS version or is it worth seeking out the DEI version?

Thanks! :;):

hi kabir
welcome to zulm.net

have you tried indiaweekly.com
you have to order online (the versions other than dei) and then just send them e-mail saying that you only want the dei copy of these films

dei version of HDDCS has the original aspect ratio, and it is better than the VS version, mostly (dei have a slight sqashy picture problem, but not any hinderance to viewing in anyway)

hope this helps

Kabir, I'm assuming you've checked in local Indian stores? I've seen quite a few DEI titles on the shelves at one store near me. Give us a follow up if you find any of the titles, online or otherwise. In the meantime, I will check to see if any of the titles you want are at the store I go to and give an update.

I wonder if someone can track this DEI DVD which has been alluding me so far.

It is DASTAK (Sushmita Sen).

Indiaweekly at one time listed it as "DEI/EROS/B4U". Could it mean that even the B4U version, which is easily available, is really authored by DEI and DEI lost this work at the time of their split with EROS??

Thanks.

Rana

Can I ask, why are you looking for the flipper version?? It is annoying to have to pause for flipping.

I see some merrit to it though, specially if a cheap media is used for dual layer version (did they?).

Two other rare titles that are hard to find to DEI is Sarfarosh and Badal (video rights belong to Video Sound which meant DEI had to pull the DVD - but still did make it out, but extremely hard to find)

BTW HDDCS 2 DVD set from DEI is much better quality than the Video Sound version - recommended if you can source it.

I had no trouble finding DEI BAADAL, but that was just before DEI declared bankruptcy. I found DEI BAADAL at APPOLO in Toronto.

In general people don't know the virtue of DEI authored discs. In one of the shops, I saw one copy of DEI Andaaz Apna Apna in clearance bin for under $12 (Cdn). Three months later, when I tried to get this DVD for my rels, I couldn't find it anywhere. I went back to the same store, and it was right there at the same place same pile. EROS versions (more expensive) were gone though.

DASTAK (1996)
Released by EROS Entertainment, 140 mintes. Starring Sushmita Sen, Sharad Kapoor, and Mukul Dev.

Digital transfer by DOT MEDIA. English subtitles on dialogue and songs (nice), unfortunately the subtitles appear at too fast a rate, making them difficult to follow.

Video quality isn't up to DVD standards as the colors bleed in many scenes. The Dolby Digital stereo audio has problems with the level of the volume, which fluctuates annoyingly throughout the movie.

Dastak is a wild, fascinating film about Miss Universe Sushmita Sen, playing herself, who is stalked by an obsessive, mentally unstable fan played by Sharad Kapoor and who seeks protection from Inspector Malhotra (Mukul Dev). Dastak is a never dull, over-the-top action drama, that holds the viewer's interest throughout. Featuring excellent songs by Rajesh Roshan such as "Kal Beeyt Gaya Ye To." The musical highlight of the film is the highly enjoyable picturization of "Piya O Piyo." In which, the scantily-clad Miss Sen is directed with great flair by Mahesh Bhatt in a song which features many fine special effects and inspired choreography.

Dastak is not great cinema; it has a cliche filled plot, and caricatured acting that stretches the movie's credibility. Nevertheless, Dastak is such a fun film, that it may be worth buying the DVD even with the sub-standard transfer done by Eros and Dot Media.. Recommended but with strong reservations..Irwin Marin

I have brought so many DEI/EROS titles from Inidancdstore.com 6 to 9 months ego. But recently I have brought 3 more from them. But this time the EROS DHANCE DHAMAKA (DEI) DVD and EROS BLOCKBUSTER (DEI) hits VOL1 does not look good at all. Even though in film mode the picture looked washed out. I have the B4U versions of the both disks. And the colors look better on them and they don't look washed out.
These copies are losing their DEI quality. May be Replication problem? I am afraid these pirated DEI/EROS copies are not going to be as good as they used to be when DEI around.
May some one who knows about the source for the disks can explain about these issues. I have ordered lot of DEI/EROS titles from a different place. I will let you know about the quality once I receive them.

Thanks Ganti & Arsh.

I am sure DASTAK's DEI version existed at one time. Even Jolly's site had it until a few months back.

Nice Link Ganti.

This is what it says for EROS vs DEI version.

"Another subpar effort from Eros: numerous speckles, over-saturated colors, poor contrast, and English subtitles that are occasionally out of sync. The songs menu doesn't even display the song titles. If you really must have this film, the out-of-print DEI version is undoubtedly a better choice."
