I think I watched it in DTS at Silver City Mississauga 4 days ago. My soundtrack was quite loud. I was glad when this baroque version of Devdas was over. As for IMAX, I saw Harry Potter on an IMAX screen.....watch it in a regular theater. The smaller negative blown up to IMAX size gets blurry.

hey bludhound, can you please tell me if your version of Devdas (the one at Silvercity) was the Indian version or the International version.

Specifically, can you tell me if it had the Maar Daala song. And was it in THX???

Thanks man.

Devdas is running in few "Big Screen Big Sound" theatres in Toronto area regular 3 shows daily. I saw it again at AMC (400 & 7) with my family. The sound was good, must have been DD, but not as good as Cinesphere. The directionality of sound was not as distinct as at Cinesphere. It did rock though. Visually it was a bit dark again but better than the Ottawa presentation, although, not as bright as Cinesphere. (Imax quiz indicates, its light bulb can be seen from the moon with naked eye).

Too bad, only about 30 to 40 viewers were in the show (no-bang small screen theatres like Albion and Woodside get many times more viewers per show). May be it was not advertized properly (I found it by accident that Devdas was showing at AMC). There were over 600 viewers at Cinesphere show last week. If we want more shows in good theares, we need to paronize and encourage others for these good theatre showings.

P.S.

darius25, this version was the same, close to 3 hours (no interval). It had all the sequences you asked.

thx rana. I suspected that AMC had the full length version but I'm surprised that there was no interval as they used to have them when they screened Indian movies two years ago.

I'm going to try out the Silvercity theatre for this movie, since the Toronto Star ad says it's playing in THX there!! The theatre says that the run time is close to 3 hours so I suspect that it's the original cut, just hope there is an interval though...

Don't know which version, but it clocked near 3 hrs, and it did have the maar dala song. I'm still wary of watching a 35mm print blown up to IMAX, and as for THX...i don't think any indian movie has ever been thx certified..but i think the theater was thx certified.

BTW, can someone tell me the difference between the 2 different endings of the movie? Thanks

The 35mm prints for IMAX are usually "specially enhanced 35mm presentations," meaning that the print is printed lighter than normal cinema prints. But I doubt they did this for Devdas and would recommend seeing it on a normal screen.

thx bludhound, but try watching an Indian film in IMAX. The film isn't blown up to fit the entire screen, it still retains its original aspect ratio. Just go see Mujhse Dosti Karoge at Cinesphere this weekend - trust me, you'll definately notice a difference!!

AMC presentation was good but Cinesphere presentation is much better.

While at Albion, for OJJ, I got a glimpse of Devdas screening. Devdas screening was as black as in Ottawa. Watching Devdas and OJJ side by side, assuming that both theatres were playing average film prints, DEVDAS definitely has a problem. It's a very demanding projection. Of all 4 screenings I saw, only I-max screening had only OK brightness (Imax bulb can be seen from the moon with naked eye). I am appalled, 500 million rupees masterpiece, advertised for its cinematography, and is not see-able on a normal projection.

rana, all the blame goes only to the people who processed the prints, ie ADLABS. it's not that every non-IMAX theater doesn't have bright bulbs, it's that they COMPLETELY screwed p the processing for the prints released in this part of the world. People I know in the middle east all say that the print was perfect.

Youullu is right it's not the theatre that is lacking, maybe the processing of Devdas was shitty. I saw it twice at Cineplex Odeon(Square1 Area) which advertised DTS. The sound was acceptable, mostly front channels were active but the picture was on the darker side. " yeh gaddhe Devdas, DTS may kab karengay",
