The soundtrack has been out for some days, and already some reports are out that many people have felt the songs to be just below par.

I personally feel the songs are just your Rahman type songs which gets to grow on you after each hearing. The fussion of Religion bajans, Bhangra, and soul music is quite a unqiue thing on the track BABA...BABA and I know this will be redubbed in Hindi for some future film. On the whole the album is better then Rajni/Rahman's last flicks together; Muthu, and Padiayappa.

BABA is certainly an improvement over Bombay Dreams and LOBS. But when you compare to other present Tamil tracks coming out like THULAMO EILLAMALIA (YS Raja), SAMURAI (Harris Jayeraj) & RUN (Vidyasagar), then BABA does sound quite poor.

Wot is ur opinion on the soundtrack?

Now I pin all my hopes on the film BABA (along with Hindi cinema's Kaante) as the film I am most dying to see this year.

In typical Rahman fashion, it grows on you. But the arrangements scream rush job. Rahman gave a subpar soundtrack with Padaiyappa, I'm surprised that Rajnikant would want him again. Then again, you don't say no to Rajnikant. The Rajnikant intro song is a mid paced bhangra number. Definately worth a purchase for the big Rahman fans like myself.

I found it odd that Rahman used a Bhrangra number for a Rajnikant film? I know his hardcore fans won't like this song, as its not really to do with the Tamil Naidu culture, but this film is being dubbed into Hindi as well so I guess its for that market.

I saw another BABA tralier on TV, and I really like Rajni's new style with the half knife, half trishul weapon :) and the fights do look quite good.

I feel he should do more Hindi films, that guy had screen presence and a unique style, that many actors tried to copy but failed. Its sad that he commands such a high price to be in films (one of the highest in India), which properly makes film producers & directors unwillingly to hire him. Add to that his box-office record in Hindi cinema which isn't great dispite the odd blockbusters like Hum, Bagwan Dada and classics like Dalpathi & Chaalbaaz.

Do you know where I can download mp3s of the soundtrack? I've checked a few sites, but they don't have Baba yet. Maybe they'll have it next week.

I haven't heard it although I am a big Ar rahman fan, his music in Rajnikanth's films are not really to my taste.

I think Run is being remade in both Telegu and Hindi, as with all A.R. Ratnam films. Run does look like a good action film, from the t.v. spots.

After several listenings, I like the Baba soundtrack. I think Rahman had to balance what Rajni's fans want and what Rahman's fans demand. He did this successfully in Muthu, but showed disinterested in composing Padaiyappa. I sense this same disinterest in Baba, but the numbers still are enjoyable. The title song is quite different for a Rajni movie, a little slower in pace, but still filled with political lyrics. Sooner or later, Rajni will run for political office.

Ever since the film Baasha (a part remake of Hum) he has used politics in his films. I sort of hate him doing that as its quite bias and one sided. The ugly-fat actor Vijayakant does the same. I saw his new film Rajjiyam recently (wot was fit Sharmita Shetty doing with him??) and it was nothing but his politics agenda. Might as well been a party policatal broadcast. Even Vijay has started with his recent film Tamilian and Youth!

Wot I don't get is why all fans, behave in that manner, they make him like a god. A bit like MGR, who I think was highly over-rated. Alright he did some good for people and the Indian film industry, but that doesn't make a person devine or god-like?

Its southie actors like Kamal Hassan, Shivaji, Suyra & Ajith who have kept away from all of the politics/film ugly hybrid.

I downloaded the Baba tracks and I really like them. Much better than Padaiyappa. The bhangra number, however odd it may seem, does sound pretty good. "Maya Maya" is the best one, IMHO. I do not expect much from the film, however, as it will have Rajni's political agenda plastered all over it and Suresh Krishna is directing.

As for MGR being overrated, I've never particularly liked his films. Sivaji was probably the best Tamil actor I've ever seen.
