Saw Mother India early in the morning on Channel 4 (12.15 am-3.30 am!!!).
First time I watched the film and maybe not the last. Excellent proformances as well as great music. Just two things really.

1) How good or bad is the print used on the dvd. The one on C4 was quite good considering the age but was transmitted in 4:3 ratio.

2) I just couldn't help but think of a potential remake of the film and who could play the parts. Any thoughts on this matter???

Zulm Review:

Both DEI, EROS released this DVD, DEI DVD would be the wise choice.

EROS is the number 1 in hindi movie industries. bla bla.. AVOID THEM!!

If This movie is to be remade:
i would consider the following artistes would be best for the role.. they are in priority from best match to least match.

Sunil Dutt - (Akshaye Khanna, Shah Rukh Khan, Fardeen Khan)
Rajendra Kumar - (Jackie Shroff, Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Kapoor)
Raaj Kumar - (Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor)
Nargis - (Madhuri Dixit, Rani Mukherjee)
Sukhilala - (Anupam Kher, Nana Patekar, Om Puri)
Sukhilala Daughter - (Namrata Shirodkar)

C4 print of Mother India was quite bad, and was taken from a gradeint postive use for cinema halls, instead of an Interpostive print like the ones used on EROS or DEI DVD's. The DVD is far more better and would recommend the DEI version.

C4 print of Kandukodien was however really amazing and almost like high def quality. Shame the film was letterbox 1.85:1 and not anamorphic 2.35:1 on their digital service.

I agree! dvd presentation of KK was below my expectations for an Ayangran presentation, it is not anamorphic, but i have seen DEI's several non anamorphic transfers, way better than this one, quite a bit grainy picture on this one! :baaa: :vsneaky:

Considering the original film is shot flat (non anamorphic) on 35MM film, I would say the 4:3 ratio of the presentation reflects the original aspect ratio of the film.
