There is only one word to describe DEVDAS Cinesphere Toronto presentation.
WOW.
This was the best Indian movie presentation that I have ever seen.
The screen is Gigantic, much bigger than the “Big Screen Big Sound†theatres, where the screens already are BIG. Unless you are sitting in the last few rows, your eyes can’t cover the whole screen. Despite the Gigantic projection, the picture was SHARP, DETAILED, BRIGHT AND CLEAR.
Audio was excellent as well. I am not sure whether the audio was DTS, DTS 6.1. DD or DD Ex. Whatever it was, it was LOUD, CLEAR and had proper DIRECTIONALITY. Sounds, loud ones and even the feeble ones, if originating from outside of the shown picture area, came from the appropriate direction speaker. 3 weeks ago when I wasted my 4 hours in a crap screening (14 ft x 33 ft). A small scuffle broke out, as some one’s whispering was disturbing people in the next row. In this showing, you couldn’t hear anything even if someone shouted in your ear. I am sure the peak audio level must have been 110 dB (as per Directors Intentions) or may be 120 dB occasionally (Next time I will carry my Radio Shack dB indicator). Of course, it had thundering base.
As Darius25 advised above, any one who can make it to the T.O. Cinesphere presentation of DEVDAAS must see it in Cinesphere (or any theatre as good). I will add HUMRAAZ, COMPANY, MISSION KASHMIR, AKS, RTGM, SHOLAY, DIL SE etc into this category as well.
Devdas was a 35 mm print (35 mm x 24 frames per sec) shown on a large screen. Can you imagine what will it be like to see TAJMAHAL I-MAX (70 mm x 48 frames per sec??
Rana
P.S.
1) Thank you, Dogra K and Darius25 for the right advice.
2) Arsh, I didn’t confront the local theatre to see if it was a DVD presentation.
Few reasons:
Firstly, you can’t contact them by phone as only the answering machine comes on (I don’t like to leave my name and Ph # for them to call me back). Secondly, although it may very well be, but I don’t think a DVD picture can be projected to a 14 ft x 33 ft screen. I may be wrong on this one as the picture really was that bad. I am not the only one, even others whom I thought did not care about quality, had the same complaint. Also, the burnt sub-titles were too bright to be coming out of a DVD (I may be wrong though).
QUESTION:
What is Toronto Cinesphere? I-max, Omni-max or both? The screen was roughly square of which only a part of the screen was used for the projection.
