For those in UK -

Full details of the Indian Summer season on Channel 4 is now on their web site at:

http://www.filmfour.com/indiansummer/

In addition to the eight films previouly announced in their Bollywood Women season, they are showing "Dil Hi to Hai" starring Nutan and "Mera Saya" starring Sadhana.

There is no tribute to Madhuri or Madhubala.

As Madhubala was and remains one of the most popular Bollywood stars I think Ch 4 has made a big mistake by not including her.

Ch 4 are also showing a "Filmi Fundas" season - with the films "Everybody Says I'm Fine" "Bollywood Calling" "Bawander" and "American Desi" and also a Merchant Ivory season.

Their digital SUBSCRIPTION channel "FILM FOUR" is showing Satyajit Ray's APU trilogy, Mira Nair's "Kama Sutra", Mehta's "Earth" and "Fire", and Santosh Sivan's "The Terrorist" amongst others.

There are also free events in London's Regents Park 27 - 28 July including free open air showing of "Monsoon Wedding" and live music and another two day event at Roundhay Park, Leeds 10 - 11 August including free open air showing of "Hum Aapke Hain Kaun" (UGH - what a bad choice), and live music.

There are also many documetaries on ch 4 including "An Idiot's Guide to Bollywood".

Enjoy.

John

What a coincidence that HAHK and "Idiot's Guide to Bollywood" are near each other in your post :)

Pakeezah
Everybody Says I'm Fine (I'm surprised there showing this, as it hasn’t even got a proper release yet)
Bollywood Calling, Bawandar - just to show how crap Eros DVD are :D

Just a thought, but how are they going to show Monsoon Wedding on a big screen in a public area, when the film has swearing, deals with controversial 'adult' themes, etc?
We all know alot of Indians and others are going to turn up with their families for a fun day out and you'll probably have quite a few kids there too. So I wonder if you may have to go into a boarded up area, where it will be restriced to over 15's only...or will thye be showing an edited version?

By the way as American Desi is also coming on C4,make sure you record it, cos we KNOW the Eros DVD will be junk!

Colours and contrast were better and there was no squash image like Dei's. Of course it was not in anamorphic or DD 5.1 but if I wish had a choice and could take the best of both . Anyway it was badly censored due to the sensitivity of the subject in the film
