This might be right thread to put my persona views !

I saw DEVDAS..Last Night!
Verdict!!RECOMENDED, MUST TO SEE IN THE THEATRE!

GOOD FILM..must see!
Not a MODERN DAY CLASSIC ...IMHO, But Good! One Of The Best Things happening In Bollywood these days!

Grandeour/Gorgeous set up.

First Half Drags! Second Half more intense..Makes up.

Actings of 3 main lead actors....Brilliant.!In the Order of PREFERENCE!

SRK..First half, simple same old SRK, lacks Dilip Kumar's Charisma,Persona, does not look ARISTOCRAT.
Second half..He does Immense Job! His role has the most footage!

Madhuri Dixit..Looks Gorgeous, Acts SO WELL, Every Time She is with another actor, in a shot she steals the show.Whether it is SRK, Aish or Scenes with Kali Babu..She is Simply Brilliant..Every thing abt her speaks for her, Why she is MADHURI DIXIT>

Aishwarya Rai..Performs Well, Looks Divine..Just a Godess!!

Music, Songs and Back Ground (by Monty)Dances, Sets, Costumes...Just Brilliant!

2nd Half..2 songs...dola re dola and chalak chalak..appear excessive, mostly there for COMMERCIAL REASON, as BHARAT SHAH said, to Bring audience in REPEATEDLY.

SLB direction GOOD! He Tried to Create Some Thing Out of this Word..and in PRESENT DAYS, In One Respect he SUCCEEDS!

But Still, IMHO, Khamoshi is His Best Film...period!

I Agree!! Expectations are SKYROCKETING? But You dont come home DISAPPOINTED entirely or DEPRESSED either!

Well, I did not cry and I did not see any body crying(for the film or go against the film???)

First Half..Emotion Impact..Paro/Devdas love and Seperation is Minimal!

Second half..Is more Intense because of tragedy and Madhuri's presence!

Bottom Line..You have a lot more reasons to SEE it than MISS it.

Cheers! Enjoy The Show!

****BOTTOM LINE!! IT is no MUGHLE AZAM, no PAKEEZAH, no UMRAO JAAN, no LAGAAN, no DILIP's DEVDAS..But Just a Modern Day DEVDAS of SLB!!It is NOT a MASTERPIECE, nor a CLASSIC!

OVERSEAS BOX OFFICE NOTE FOR DEVDAS!
"Devdas" Starts off On The Right Track

By: Planet Bollywood Special Correspondant
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Amidst the high expectations, an equally good response has been faced. Though many have said the film doesn´t touch perfectness, it has been wholly enjoyed by audiences all over the world, and more specifically overseas.

Devdas was always expected to do well overseas, as producer and financier Bharat Shah have said that in India he only need a 75% outcome to regain his costs for four weeks, and a good overseas outcome.

Well, thus far, the response overseas is overwhelming. The film has not only beat Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham in terms of advance booking etc., but it is expected to do better in the upcoming weeks. Combine that with a bumper opening in India (which too beat K3G in many places), and chances look great for Sanjay Leela Bhansali´s magnum opus.
:baaa: ;) :p

I saw the film last night at an AMC theater in Toronto, and it was a packed-house show with even people sitting on the side floor. As with regards to the film itself, it's perhaps the most visually hunting Indian Film I have seen (and even perhaps I will ever see). Though the film is no Modern Day Classic (IMO), its screenplay was just a bit too exaggerated at times & there were a few characters that actually had no important relevance to the actual story. Plus the placements of the songs Chalak Chalak & Dola Ra Dola were really not needed in the film. The three principle roles were preformed with u-most competence. Madhuri Dixit was absolutely stunning!! performing Mardala & Kaha Chaada Mohe. Aishwarya Rai has given her first true great performance(given that she hasn't done so in the past). And quite evidently, Shah Rukh Khan is no Dilip Kumar, but his portrayal of the drunkin loser of the films last 15-20 mintues was just powerfully done. I would second Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the fact that, no one in this generation could portray a more intense Devdas than Shah Rukh Khan. In my humble opinion, Shah Rukh Khan gives his career's best performance in the last 15-20 mintues of Devdas.

I think Amit Khanna from India Today said it best to describe this film, "it merely stops at being a very good film. It could have been great."

Just my 2 cents

BHANSALI'S DEVDAS EMERGES WINNER !!!!

UNANIMOUS!

http://ww.smashits.com/index.c....ID=1776

FOR PRINCE NAZ!

The high point of the film is Shah Rukh Khan's acting. Most probably for the first time he has come out of his own image. It was his sticking to his oft-repeated mannerism that made "Asoka" bite dust but all credit goes to Sanjay who has presented Shah Rukh in a new form. There were apprehensions whether SRK will be able to stand to the standards set by Dilip Kumar in Bimal Roy's Devdas. Though he did not surpass Dilip, he is also not far behind him. Sanjay has given Shah Rukh Khan long scenes and dialogues and with his efforts and dedication SRK has come out winner. This places him to the No.1 position once again that was challenged by Hrithik Roshan some time back. SRK lives the nuances of Devdas to its best and also showcases some of the best romantic moments filmed ever with Aishwarya Rai.

FORE EVRY BODY ELSE:
Aishwarya shows the grace of an Indian woman who is in love with a man but marries another. The scene where SRK is flirting with her at the bank of the river or where she meets SRK in the full moonlight is the best examples of her capabilities. Madhuri on the other hand comes with her all glamour personified in the role of Chandramukhi. She is the connecting point of the film to the classic. She also performs some classical dances and mujras at par with some of the best performances of Indian cinema. Jackie excels in the role of Chunni Babu, his dialogues are very cleverly woven in the story and they do bring in some comic relief in the film.

FINAL WORD!

Apart from good performances, "Devdas" is also one of the best technical films made so far. Binod Pradhan's cinematography and Nitin Desai's sets make a deadly combination that mesmerises the viewers from scene one till the end. The sets created for Chandramukhi's brothel outdo sets of "Mughal-e-Azam" and "Pakeeza". But, Devdas's main attraction is its soul. All the three main protagonists have enough money. "Devdas" has inherited it and spends it on wine and woman. Chandramukhi has money but leaves it for love. Paro gets wealth after her marriage but wishes to live with her past. Devdas' dedication for his first love is a thing to feel for and it is this search for the first love that makes "Devdas" contemporary even after hundred years of its writing. The film is a must for viewers, and those who miss it will be losers.
