Just seen some programme feature on a Tamil channel which looked at the biography of director Mani Ratnam. On it was a clip of Vivek Oberoi's forthcoming movie "Saathiya" which is a remake of one of the best romantic films by Ratnam "Alay Pauthey". The Hindi version is produced by Yash Chopra and directed by Mani Ratnam's assitant Shaad Ali.

From the clip the technical aspects look slightly weaker then the original (doubt even the excellent cinematograher Anil Metha could match P.C Sreeam's original vision) and the score by Rahman has not changed. The only changes in the screenplay was making the settings based in the area of Punjab.

Casting is good (except for Rani Mukherjee as she is too loud) and is spookly very simlar to the Tamil casting. Vivek Oberoi does look a bit like Madhavan!! SRK is said to appear in a special apperence role that Arvind Swamy did.

The narrator even mention that a director in Pakistani is also remaking the film with the songs shot in Istanbul, Turkey and that at one point the screenplay by Mani Ratnam was of intrested to a few major hollywood studio's who saw the film at some German film festival!

I hope the Hindi version does become a hit as its a remake well worth doing, instead of all the other shits Hindi films have been remaking from thier weaker southern counterparts.

Sunny and no words ( at least lip service) for da LOLLY version ? The Bolly version may hit Bulls eye due to Vivek Oberoi, but what abt the.... ?
