I wonder when it'll release here in Toronto, can't wait...heard the song clips on http://www.bombaydreamsthemusical.com...they sounded cool, esp Wedding Qawwali...initially, Andrew wanted 20 of ARR's old hits to be used in the play, which is a blend of the East n West...I'm glad ARR insisted that he should compose some new tunes as well...some of ARR's previous hits have been remixed, that too with English lyrics this time...

Lets see how the western audience reacts to it...it does have potential..

 :vsneaky:

agree the wedding quawali is ace, the rest of the songs aren't really that great cos A R Rehman is great but his music is crushed under crap english lyrics.......shakalaka baby is good and the song from the indian movie (wont say which so as not to spoil it) both got the biggest cheers last night!

I did enjoy Dilip Tahil in the play and his singing in the songs Don't Release Me, Bombay Dreams & Happy Endings was another highlight of the show. I'm surprised no-one in India has picked up on this hidden talent of this actor/lyrics writter.

My fav song was "Like An Eagle" by Raza Jaffery and best remix of a Indian tune had to be "Ooh La La" ripped from Minsara Kanavu (aka Sapney) . It was a mixure of Indian/R'n'B/Slow Melody.

Don Black was quite weak in some of his lyrics wirrting but his humor on the conventions of Bollywood was more stronger then of Meera Syal's poor script!

Maybe Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber should have either used a Hindi film writter like Neeraj Vorha or Sanjay Chel. Lets hope the film version (if it gets greenlighted) will be better as rumours on Shekar Kapur directing it have been mentioned in Media circles, and his cinema work has never disspointed.

yep the jail song was really good and wasn't sung in a fake indian accent unlike some of the other songs which was rather irriatating especially as they were british asians faking an accent........(shah rukh on richard and judy complained that for the bond movie they wanted him to do a thick indian accent 2, so westerners should wise up)

that quawaali anyone know which film/album it is originally from? or was it new for the show? it was sung by sukwinder singh according to the show programme :where:
