Veteran actor Rakesh Pandey passed away earlier today (March 21, 2025) at the age of 77. The passed away at 8:49 am at Arogyanidhi Hospital, Juhu, where he was admitted in the ICU. The late-actor passed away due to cardiac arrest. His last rites were performed at Shastri Nagar crematorium, attended by family and close acquaintances.

The actor’s journey in Indian cinema began with a remarkable debut in Basu Chatterjee’s 1969 classic Sara Akash, a film that not only marked him as a promising actor but also earned him the President’s Award. He started his journey in acting with a strong foundation in theater. He trained at the Indian Film and Television Institute (FTII) in Pune and later joined the Bhartendu Academy of Dramatic Arts.

In his early years, he was also associated with IPTA (Indian People’s Theatre Association), where he sharpened his skills and developed a natural, realistic style of acting. His deep connection with theater helped him transition smoothly into films, bringing authenticity to his performances.

Beyond films, Rakesh Pandey was also a familiar face on television. He appeared in popular shows like Chotti Bahu, Dehleez, and the acclaimed historical series Bharat Ek Khoj (1988). After stepping away from acting for over two decades, he made a strong comeback in 2017 with Kapil Sharma’s Firangi, proving his undying love for the craft. In recent years, he continued to take on roles in projects like Hurdang (2022) and the web series The Lawyers Show.

Rakesh Pandey was known for bringing realism and depth to his characters, making them relatable and memorable. His work played a significant role in shaping family-centric and culturally rich stories in Indian cinema. With a career spanning decades, his dedication and versatility left a lasting impression on audiences and the industry alike.

Actor Shefali Jariwala, best known for her iconic single "Kaanta Laga", passed away Friday night, a hospital source said. She was 42.

The cause behind Jariwala’s death is yet to be ascertained and her body has been taken for postmortem, the Mumbai Police said.

“Her body was found at her residence in Andheri. The police received the information at 1 a.m. [Saturday]. Her body has been sent to Cooper Hospital for postmortem. The cause of her death is not yet clear,” police stated.

A mobile forensic unit and a team of Mumbai Police reached the actor’s apartment in the Golden Rays-Y building, an official said.

Jariwala was rushed to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in suburban Mumbai by her husband, actor Parag Tyagi.

“She was brought to the hospital around 11:15 p.m. The on-duty doctor declared her dead on arrival,” a hospital source said.

As per media reports, Jariwala died of a heart attack though there was no official statement yet from the family or her representatives.

Jariwala gained popularity through her participation in reality shows like “Nach Baliye”, a dance-based show series, with her husband, and later, Salman Khan-hosted “Bigg Boss 13”.

Jariwala's sudden death has shocked many industry friends and colleagues, who expressed grief.

Singer Mika Singh said he is unable to fathom the news about the death of his dearest friend, Jariwala.

“I’m deeply shocked, saddened, and feeling a heavy heart… Our beloved star and my dearest friend @shefalijariwala has left us. Still can’t believe it. You will always be remembered for your grace, smile, and spirit. Om Shanti,” Mr. Singh wrote.

“I can't get over this news...my heart is sinking. Shefali,” actor Kamya Punjabi wrote.

Actor Aly Goni wrote, “RIP Shefali.”

Jariwala rose to prominence in 2002 with the massive popularity of "Kaanta Laga", a remix of an old Lata Mangeshkar song from the 1972 movie "Samadhi".

Veteran filmmaker Chandra Barot, best known for directing the 1978 cult classic Don starring Amitabh Bachchan, died on Sunday. He was 86.

The news of his death was confirmed by his wife, Deepa Barot. Speaking to TOI, she said, "He had been battling pulmonary fibrosis for the past seven years."

She added that he was undergoing treatment at Guru Nanak Hospital under the care of Dr Manish Shetty and had also been admitted to Jaslok Hospital earlier.

Farhan Akhtar, who is directing the third installment of Don, paid tribute to Chandra Barot on Instagram. His post read, "Saddened to learn that the director of the OG Don is no more. RIP Chandra Barot-ji. Deepest condolences to the family."

Chandra Barot made his directorial debut with Don, a project that came to life after actor-producer Nariman Irani faced financial trouble following the failure of Zindagi Zindagi (1972).

To help Irani, Barot and his team took on the project and brought in writers Salim-Javed, whose script had been previously rejected by leading names like Dev Anand, Dharmendra and Jeetendra.

Following Don, Barot directed the Bengali films Aashrita (1989) and Pyar Bhara Dil (1991). However, several of his other projects-including Boss and Neil Ko Pakadna... Impossible, remained incomplete or unreleased.

His legacy lived on through the Don franchise, which expanded years later. In 2006, Shah Rukh Khan starred in a reimagined version of Don, dedicated to Barot's original.

That film went on to have a sequel, and now a third installment is in the works, directed by Farhan Akhtar, with Ranveer Singh and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles.

Mumbai: Actor Nazima, who played the quintessential sister and best friend to several heroes and heroines in the 1960s and '70s, passed away at age 77 Monday.

She lived in Dadar with her two sons.

Born Mehrunnisa in Nashik on March 25, 1948, Nazima hailed from a family of female actors including aunt Husn Bano who was married to filmmaker Aspi Irani.

Her cousin Zarreen Babu confirmed her death on social media Monday.

She started her career as child actor Baby Chand with Do Bigha Zamin as the elder of two sisters who were ferried to school by Balraj Sahni, the rickshawallah. She appeared to be a Bimal Roy discovery, having featured in Devdas as the classmate of little Paro, followed by Biraj Bahu as the sister of Abhi Bhattacharya. Nazima was also noticed in the children's caper Ab Dilli Door Nahin produced by Raj Kapoor.

She later went on to star opposite Sanjeev Kumar in Nishan (Hai tabassum tera) and Raja Aur Runk (O firki walli and Sang basanti). She acted with Rajesh Khanna in Aurat and Doli.

Her mainstream movies include Abhinetri, Manchali, Prem Nagar, Anurag, Beimaan, Doli—and Arzoo where her long, bloodcurdling scream at discovering that her brother Rajendra Kumar has lost a leg, is well remembered.

The actor played Asha Parekh's sister in Aaye Din Bahaar Ke (Ai Kaash kisi deewane ko), where she deliberately fell off a staircase two times as she tried to gain Dharmendra's attention in vain.

Her other best friend roles include Hema Malini's impish friend in Abhinetri and Leena Chandavarkar's companion in Manchali.
