IMO, Ajit totally creamed Amitabh in Zanjeer ;-)
BTW, the climax of Amitabh's Deewaar is quite a lift from Ajit's death scene in Mughal-e-Azam!
Known DVDs of Zanjeer: Eros, DEI-Eros, Spark, Baba, Bombino, MoserBaer, BIG Home Video -- these have ARs varying from 2.35:1 to approx 2.00:1 to 4:3.

BIG dvd of Zanjeer is NTSC with runtime of approx. 2 hrs 20 minutes (as such, it appears to be with PAL speedup). It seems to be the true original 4:3 ratio and uncropped. Audio is Dolby Digital 2.0 with English subtitles available even during songs.

The Bombino/Spark/BIG all seem to have the same cover

Possibly the same transfer?

Unfortunately, once more, it's a decision between full-frame and good transfer — that "BIG" release shows us everything we're supposed to see, but it looks just terrible...

looks pretty ok when played on tv. and, my laptop may actually be responsible for some loss of quality in screenshots.

in any case, dei looks sexed up while big, even if a lil dul, is the more natural -- isn't it?

Yes, my DEI copy is, as you put it, a bit "sexed up," but I appreciate its sharpness and vibrance. The BIG release, to me, based on these shots, on the other hand, looks soft and dull. Of course, I admit, one cannot judge everything based on a handful of screen-shots seen on a C.R.T. computer monitor.

I own the Shemaroo version.
Its nothing greater. In my opinion, the reliance version is better. I never had the other versions.

I bought the prakash Mehta - amitabh bachchan DVD which is a 4 in 1 DVD pack. The cover wasn't safe and all the discs are scratched and they freeze.

The following movies are available in that set...
1) Zanjeer
2) Muqaddar ka sikander
3) sharaabi
4) I don't remember... :?

The Shemaroo version is same as reliance, with a little colour boost & their special watermark on the right hand corner of the screen
