Kahaani Goes Into Second Week With Strong Collections
16 March 2012

Kahaani has gone into the second week with strong collections. The film is firmly established at the box office as the collections on the weekdays saw minimal drops.

The first week collections of the film are around the 23 crore nett region after a 14 crore nett weekend (including paid previews).

The film has collected better than a similar film from last year No One Killed Jessica all over apart from North India although that film had a smaller release.

No One Killed Jessica went on to do around 30 crore nett business but faced huge competition in week two in the form of Yamla Pagla Deewana where as Kahaani has huge advantage of an open week and should comfortably go over 35 crore nett.

Kahaani May Emerge SUPER HIT
17 March 2012

Kahaani had a good first week of around 23 crore nett and was very strong from Monday onwards. The 8th day collections are excellent in metros. The film is a HIT and could well emerge a SUPER HIT on the strength of metros depending on collections over the next week or so.

Kahaani Is SUPER HIT: Heads For 45-50 Crore
18 March 2012

Kahaani had a another jump on Saturday as it collected around 3.75 crore nett. It was basically a repeat of its business in week one when its also jumped around 80%.

The business of Kahaani is likely to be a 10 crore nett plus in its second weekend. It is likely that the two week business of the film will be around 40 crore nett and although the film will face a heavy drop in week three due to release of Agent Vinod it will still add at least 5 crore from week three onwards.

The big cricket match may affect collections a little on Sunday as it clashes with peak Sunday shows of after 1 pm but as collections are not at huge levels it should will not take a big chunk of the collections.

Saw this last night - very highly recommended. This is a thriller with no distractions from the main storyline, and thankfully, Sujoy Ghosh has chosen Bengali actors that fit the roles, rather than trying to fit the stock supporting actors from Bollywood into the film. Well worth a watch.

Zoran bhai, she's 7 months pregnant in the film - how much do you expect her to run?!

Kahaani Emerges ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER In West Bengal
9 March 2012

Kahaani is an All Time Blockbuster in West Bengal as it emerges one of the biggest hits of all time in West Bengal.

The film has already crossed the nett figures and distributor share of films like Ready and Golmaal 3. In three weeks the film has grossed around 5.75 crore nett and it may very well finish its run on around 7 crore nett.

Only three films in the history of Hindi cinema have managed to cross the 7 crore nett mark in West Bengal and they are Three Idiots, Dabangg and Don 2.

The Three Idiots total of 10.30 crore nett is out of reach for Kahaani but Dabangg and Don 2 have figures of 7.25 crore nett and Kahaani has a chance of crossing these films depending on what happens over next 3-4 weeks.

The local flavour in the film has really helped the film a lot in West Bengal while its a totally different story in neighbouring circuit Bihar where this type of content does not work and therefore very low collections.

"Kahaani" Sequel In Offering

The heartening response to Sujoy Ghosh's "Kahaani" has created a reverberating impact. The well-received Kolkata mystery-drama has impelled its young director to make "Kahaani" and its protagonist Vidya Bagchi a part of an ongoing series.

Says a source very close to project, "The idea was with Sujoy for very long. He wrote the script of "Kahaani" four years ago. And he knew the protagonist had the potential to be a part of a series. Sujoy is a huge fan of Satyajit Ray's Feluda detective stories. The Vidya Bagchi stories could be on the lines of Feluda. A female Feluda, if you please."

It was only after the rousing reception given to the film that Sujoy has begun to seriously consider carrying the story forward. In Kolkata on Saturday for a special screening of "Kahaani" for the film's cast and crew, Sujoy admitted he was into the idea of continuing the "Kahaani" saga. Says Sujoy, "Yes, turning "Kahaani" into a franchise is something that was at the back of my mind from the time I wrote the film. I knew I had stumbled on to a unique idea that I didn't want to let go of when I finished writing "Kahaani". What Vidya Bagchi does with her life after my Kahaani, haunts me. I want to take the idea forward."

If all goes well, "Kahaani 2" would be Sujoy's next project. He has already cracked the idea for a sequel. The only problem is, getting Vidya Balan's dates. Says Sujoy, "Kahaani was written for Balan. I can't imagine taking the character forward without her. She will have to green-light the franchise before it goes further. The problem is Balan (yes, that's what the director calls her) is so choosy and busy. I'll have to write a crackling script to convince her."

At the moment, Sujoy is basking in the success of "Kahaani". "I knew it'd be liked. But never in my wildest dream did I expect this kind of acceptance for the film. I feel I've finally come home."

Sujoy's wife who lives near Scotland with his mother saw the film. "She didn't say a word after seeing it. That means she liked it."
