Lets start with a lesser known indie film from India whose trailer has been doing the rounds for quite a while. The movie is in black and white and looks damn interesting. Indian independent cinema is definitely on the rise and this one shows great potential. Looks like it might have a good run at film festivals.

And here goes the trailer for The Dirty Picture. This is a very hot and raunchy trailer and Vidya Balan looks gorgeous. This might be the only film in India which will sell on an actress' appeal.

Hi,

First time on this forum and am not sure about the protocol of addressing members.

A couple of questions about this movie (The Dirty Picture).

1) Has this movie been released?

2)Has it been released on DVD format?

The reason I ask is our website get a lot of hits from links "The Dirty Picture".

If it is released on DVD format, we would really like to know the company releasing this on DVD format for USA and other worldwide destinations.

Thank you

Maya

The Dirty Picture on it way to be a blockbuster?
3 December 2011

Vidya Balan's The Dirty Picture has opened to a mind-blowing response at the box office. The film has certainly been 'hot' property but the business seems to have exceeded the expectations of the makers as well. Occupancy in most theatres was as good as 80%-90% on day one. And this despite the fact that the film is largely woman-oriented and without any big male stars other than Emraan Hashmi.

A trade expert says, "There is a usual perception that woman-oriented films don't work in Bollywood but The Dirty Picture has changed it. The potent combination of sex and story is working to its merit".

Producer Ekta Kapoor had promoted the film widely and the film had good face-value despite not being of the big budget varieties. That helped the film get a good initial. Business is only expected to grow in the coming days.

Another fact is that the first day collections of The Dirty Picture seems stronger than most recent big-budget releases like Rockstar and Desi Boyz despite the fact that the film has comparatively released on lesser number of screens. Early estimates indicate day one collections is around Rs 9-10 crores.

In fact the buzz in trade circles is that Vidya Balan has turned out to be a bigger money-spinner than her costar in the film Emraan Hashmi who has been enjoying a steady spate of hits at the box-office. Emraan Hashmi last release Murder 2 opened big but The Dirty Picture seems to have opened bigger. Stay tuned till the final figures are revealed my Monday.

The Dirty Picture opening: Top 5 of 2011, Top 10 of all times
6 December 2011

Vidya Balan's The Dirty Picture has received a mind-blowing opening at the Indian Box Office as it collected an unprecedented 32.7 crores (Friday - 9.54 crores, Saturday - 10.78 crores, Sunday - 12.38 crores) from all versions. Releasing it in Tamil and Telugu versions too helped in its prospects. The number positions it in the Top 5 openings of 2011, way ahead of several hero-centric blockbusters made at a substantially higher cost. Also The Dirty Picture is amongst the top 10 industry openers of all time. In the overseas territory, the film has earned around Rs 3.5 crores taking its overall collections to above Rs 36 crores.

A trade expert says, "The mass entertainer is expected to surpass the Rs. 75 crores mark worldwide in its lifetime. That could make it the first female-centric film to net such incredible numbers. Income from the satellite, music, home video and other revenue streams is additional, and will add to the bottom-line".

The Dirty Picture was released across 1766 screens across India and around 120 screens abroad. Remarks Swati Shetty, President - Balaji Motion Pictures, "The Dirty Picture released to packed houses across the country and has created history of sorts for the genre and set-up it represents. We see repeat viewings thanks to the terrific word of mouth. With a bank holiday on Tuesday and no major opposition in the immediate weeks, we are anticipating the film to continue its dream run."

As predicted by us last week, the other two releases went unnoticed. The National Award winning film Land Gold Women was typically an art-house piece and commercial appeal wasn't expected of it. Even Puneet Issar's I Am Singh had a dismal run. Lack of face value didn't help the film get an initial. Poor content added to its woes with practically no audience. The producer might be banking largely on the Punjab belt or NRI audience (for its theme of racist attacks on Sikhs in US) but not much luck there either.

The coming Friday sees two prominent releases. The Band Baaja Baaraat team of Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh with director Maneesh Sharma will be seen once again in Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl. Yash Raj Films haven't overblown the film in terms of its publicity and the fate depends on its content now. If word of mouth is as strong as Band Baaja Baaraat, this could be another sleeper hit for the team.

The other release is Vikram Bhatt produced Lanka starring Manoj Bajpai, Arjan Bajwa and Tia Bajpai. Going by Vikram Bhatt's low-on-budget high-on-content brand of cinema, the prospects of this too depends on how decent a product it is.

'The Dirty Picture' Collections Jump On Tuesday
7 December 2011

The Dirty Picture got the benefit of Muharram on Tuesday as collections were around 5.75 crore nett as against the 5 crore nett on Monday. The film had jumps of 20-30% in places like UP, CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan while other areas jumped less but still most were better than Monday.

The film has so far collected around 40 crore nett in five days and is likely to have a 48 crore nett week one. Adding the regional version collections and it will be a 50 crore nett week.

The Dirty Picture is a huge hit in the Maharashtra area and should do a 14 crore distributor share in Mumbai circuit and a 2.50 crore distributor share in CP Berar which in the case of CP Berar is the same as films like Dhoom 2 and Raajneeti.

You echo my sentiments about both Vidya and the 'Swades' girl.

The Dirty Picture 7 Weeks Worldwide Collections
19 January 2012

***BLOCKBUSTER***

The Dirty Picture Has Been an excellent performer at the Box Office and Has been the longest Running Film on the Box Office for 2011.

If this release was given a Larger Screen Space then it would have surely surpassed the 100 cr Mark in India. The Film was given a cold response in Overseas but it was a Blockbuster in India.

Here are All the Box Office Statistics About this Film:

Budget – 18 cr

India Collections(net) – 79.5 cr
India Collections(gross) – 114 cr

Overseas Collections(gross) – 9 cr

Worldwide Gross – 125 cr

Final Verdict: Blockbuster
