My short review:

The first half of the movie was good, it kept my interest, but after the intermission, it went down hill from there. I lost interest, I sat there bored to death. I didn't care much for the characters anymore. The spark between Shah Rukh and Kojol is not there anymore. Sorry to say this one from Johar gets 4 out of 10.

From the looks of the promos, this film looks cringe-worthy to me. Given the theme of MNIK, it reminds me of the Pakistani film Khuda Kay Liye, an exceptionally heartbreaking film about the loss of innocence in present times. Whereas, I'm pretty sure, Karan Johar has pseudo-politicalized every aspect of the Islamic struggle post-9/11, let alone making a human tale.

My wife and I quite loved it. The film shows a lot of maturity and balance in its depiction of characters, and yet is also a great entertainer. I have never liked SRK, save a rare DDLJ or Chak De India performance, but in this movie, the man inhabits the world of Rizwan Khan to near perfection. And Kajol is as always marvelous. (I think Karan added a few extra scenes to the film just so she would get some extra screen time.)
The dialogues, screenplay and story are all very well written, though be warned this is a movie delivered distinctly Bollywood style. So to all the Hindi film fans out there who only like the semi-westernized styles of an Anurag Kashyap, Vishal Bhardwaj or Farhan Akhtar, stay far away. You will be disappointed.
Special mention to Zarina Wahab and Soniya Jehan for delivering very memorable performances of strong, Muslim, women of the past and present.

9.5/10 (Yes, it does get a little silly at times.)

I thought the portrayal of black people was sort of racist....and it made me cringe...along with everything else... :(

P.S. You absolutely cannot be a cynical human being if you want to enjoy this film. :D

"semi-westernized styles"?
You do realize that Karan Johar has an erection for anything that's anything western. And has Vishal Bhardwaj ever shot a single scene outside of India?

I said styles, not locations.

Vishal, and yes, I do love most of his movies, is heavily influenced by the Tarantino and Ritchie style of film-making. Gritty, dark humour and plot (not emotion) driven. The characters are engaging, but little time is spent on us understanding them.

Karan, on the other hand, is all about making us feel and understand the motivations of the characters in his movie, which is a very Bollywood approach. He can shoot all of his movies overseas, but that doesn't make them any less Indian. For the Urban Indian, yes, but still very Indian.

To argue that Karan Johar's film are about character analysis, I'm sorry, I don't buy that. I haven't yet seen MNIK, given what he's made so far, it's hard to digest any emotional conflict his character's suffer from. I bet most people can't relate to anything he shows. For Karan Johar, the average NRI wears Ralph Lauren sweaters and drives a Mercedes Benz, and lives in a half a million dollar home. Really? What NRI cries everyday living such a life-style? And this has nothing to do with making his character more "Indian". What's "Bollywood" about his character's is that their all suger-coated, evaded from any real human psycho-analysis. Though, if Karan was to follow the latter approach, it would only be than, that he's drifting into the cinema of Anurag Kashyap & Vishal Bhardwaj.

I'm not going to waste my time and yours defending Karan Johar.

Suffice to say I still very much enjoyed the film, and am looking forward to seeing it again some day.

I watched this with some trepidation (I hated Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna), but was pleasantly surprised. It seems that Karan Johar has gone for more realistic surroundings (rather than using some palace somewhere to resemble someone's house as in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham), and has more human characters (as opposed to the filmi ones in his previous films). I thought the second half dragged a bit, but overall, well worth a watch.

MNIK enters the British top 10 at number 6, and has the highest per screen average of any film in the chart:

Ditto, I am not pro gay johar, but despite johar taking his cringful liberties of making bollywood movies, heavily corny, and mushy at times, story/characters seen from rain man to forrest gump and beautiful mind, imho, sarook did a good job. While kajol was passe!

Worth watch!

Just noticed that My Name Is Khan is showing on Sky Indie HD in the UK this evening - first time I've seen a mainstream Hindi film being shown on one of the Sky movie channels (they have shown Deepa Mehta films in the past).

Seems like there is someone on this forum who just loves to pick on others. If I do not like this movie then I should not have to.
