I saw this news a few days ago, wanted to ask about it but never got to post it.

Wasn't Chanakya the second 70 mm theater in Delhi (Shila was the first one)?? Was/ were there more 70mm theaters in Delhi. Did Chanakya and also Shila keep up with updates like DD, DTS, etc ??

Going to wikimapia site, comments about Chanakya were very negative. How could a relatively new theater, in a posh neighbourhood, be this much run down ??
Anyway, it's being razed to be replaced with the modern trend multiplex and shopping.

BTW, what's the status of 70mm equipment in 70mm theaters as rarely does any film release in 70mm these days if any. Modern trend, though, is towards 70mm film used in I-Max up-converted release of films that hasn't arrived in India yet.

Yes, Chanakya is equipped for DTS and DD both. In fact they were by far the best cinema theater in Delhi, atleast until a few years ago. It was only after they lost the case against NDMC (New Delhi Municipal Corporation), to retain their lease, that the management stopped caring about the property and let it get run down. Who would'nt? After all why would anyone invest in a property that they were being evicted from and the property itself is going to be torn down anyhow. The owner of Chanakya, Aditya Khanna, is a personal friend and he is one of the few in the trade who has the technical knowledge and gives a damn about the quality of presentation of a film.

There are/were quite a few 70MM theaters in Delhi. Also there are a few IMAX theaters in India.
