Caught this yday at a Chicago suburb in an AMC multiplex. Terrific theatre with stadium seating and great sound. Alas the sound kept playing hokey. Am not a techie as far as the surround sound aspects are concerned so cannot say what was exactly wrong. To sum it up it was fairly inconsistent. Great in parts and not so good in others.

The movie itself was terrific so long as Hrithik was onscreen. His intro was a little shoddy. When you make or try to attempt an action flick Hindi filmmakers need to go the whole hog and learn to spend the extra bucks in making the stunts look realistic. The train sequence was ambitious and Hrithik seems to have done a major portion of the stunts on his own which is totally commendable but it still lacks the finesse of both Hong Kong and top Hollywood stuff. Cant say where we lack, perhaps the budget and planning needed to creatively think up the stunts ?

Otherwise Hrithik lights up the screen simply by his presence, his dialogue delivery, his sense of what the camera does for him in which frame and what angle. Here's a smart actor who truly needs to get ambitious and go on to the global scene by hooking up with some action directors either from Hong Kong or Hollywood. He has both the looks and the smarts to deliver big time. I dont think ANYONE comes anywhere near him in terms of onscreen presence from among present day actors.

The others are simply that - OTHERS in the happenings. Nothing to talk about. Aishwarya is so hammy and tries so hard to play cool, she ends up being unhip and downright boring ! Abhishek with his scowls is so passe and Uday is plain irritating.

Watch the movie for Hrithik and what he is actually capable of, if given a solid and serious cops-n-robbers script and a director that has a good vision, not some lazy butthead that had a fluke hit in the earlier film. I mean give me a break, each time a mobike is to be shown racing faster you absolutely DONT have to show the character riding change gears ad nauseum!!!!!! The script starts out being promising and then simply tapers down into a tepid love story cum god knows what. Totally Aditya Chopra's fault since he is credited with the story.

I would rate it a 4/10.

Amen, brotha. :D
(He does not want to. He wants homegrown films to do the trick (preferably daddy's) and cross over due to excellent work, a la "Crouching Tiger" or "Amelie". As long as the rest of the film is not on his level that is only a pious wish, though, and won't materialize).

And in that respect Hrithik is as guilty as the others(except perhaps Aamir) in propagating a dynastic tradition. Until he realises that the only way to survive is by spreading your bets and diversifying your roles. He is smart for sure and hopes he sees that soon.

Caught this film in local theatre (Silver City). This time, it was perfect surround. Aggressive surround.

It was well liked by everyone, especially the kids and teenagers. It's a Hritik film all the way.

Rana, and above all..Gals... with Duggu's bare-chest entry and dances. Saw the movie here in Minneapolis and was disappointed with the ambiance. Was shown in a dollar theater; had front speakers only. More over, the songs were no good. Missed the songs from Dhoom-1 :(

The redeeming feature was, surprise surprise... UDAY CHOPRA ! Yeah... his one liners were quite cool. Bipasha was a waste.

Wait for the movie on DVD and then watch it!..save a few bucks

Was there ever any doubt of that happening? Can't imagine it being the other way around.

I caught Dhoom 2 at the Imaginasian here in NY. I thought that the soundtrack was again front auditorium-centric. The film had a fantastic opening with Hrithik's intro and the great high energy English redo of the title track over the opening credits. Alas, my happiness was short-lived as the film then proceeded to become quite prodding and over-long. There just wasn't enough narrative to justify the running time. Plus the whole "Mission Impossible" spy thing seems to be a bit overdone by this point. The other actors were strictly working by the numbers. Still not terrible, but not quite a time pass either.

It's still a mystery when or when not, we get surround sound, even if theatre is equipped with DD as well as DTS.
Here in Ottawa it was superb high dynamite surround DHOOM, while for other films, we got Front Speakers only while you got surround. Theatre personelle tell me that film print has space for 4 tracks, so it can have DTS as well as DD on same print ??

That's true, rana. I think I may have mentioned on another post about how many of the Hwood film prints contain 4 sound tracks: DTS, SDDS, DD, and standard Dolby SR. This website is one I've been following for years and has been invaluable to learn all about the film projectionist trade:

http://www.film-tech.com

I know that the theater I saw this at (it's a one-screener) has DD-EX capability and when I saw "Salaam Namaste" as well as other non-Indian films there, there has been full 5.1 or even 6.1 sound.

That's fine, but what impressed me the most was "Aggressive surround". Thanks to carelessness, we get it only once in a blue moon, despite most films featuring aggressive surround.
Still can't digest how or why was DON front speakers only, in Ottawa Silver City (it was surround in another Silver City).

BTW, just saw these US Box Office #s:

3 day weekend: $ 979,000 from 63 screens, an amazing Million Dollars with $ 15,500 per screen. (Ranked # 17 presently)
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/ch ... =47&p=.htm

5 day weekend (this was a 5 day weekend in US) #s are not in yet. Must be close to $ 1.5 Million if DHOOM-2 started on Thursday ??

Saw it at the Imax in Bombay today. Good print. Loud sound. 75% full at 7.30 show.
It's plot hole city and really a half baked script. A list Hrithik in a B-C grade film (overall, technically A minus). It was fun nonetheless. The Russian roulette scene was the best followed by the the opening scene concerning this old 'woman'. Ha, very funny.
