I did not know it was POKIRI REMAKE:

but for DD masala flick, the previews look decent, chi chi in full form, and Lara and Kats on top of their recent successes! Sallu looks great too.

Songs are perfect masala soundtrack.

I expect it to go MSK/MPKK route, making cash registers ring for Sallu's home team!

It cant be worse than JBJ, TA RA RUM or LMKK :(

We all know that producer Boney Kapoor will launch the Hindi remake of the Tamil and Telugu blockbuster, 'Pokkiri', on 21st July, in Bangkok.

However, not many will know that a day earlier, that is 20th July, will see both, the hero and the director of the remake, on tenterhooks. For, hero Salman Khan's 'Partner', will hit the screens on July 20. On the same day will be released director Prabhu Devaa's Telugu film, 'Shankar Dada Zindabad' ( remake of 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai').

I too saw that news page. Don't think they meant Partner as Pokkiri remake. As I understand it, they (Boney Kapoor) just announced Pokkiri remake (planned) when Partner was premiering or another such function.

Some do's and don'ts you need to follow while watching PARTNER…

* Lock your brains in the almirah, before you head for the nearby movieplex to catch this zany entertainer.

* Don't look for logic. Don't ask questions. Don't raise eyebrows. .

* Don't argue with what the master chef David Dhawan serves on your plate. .

* Do carry some earplugs/earwax if you're allergic to noise. The cineplex will reverberate with high decibels of laughter, which could tax your ear-drums if you're overtly sensitive. .

Welcome to PARTNER, David Dhawan's new comic caper. It's stylish, it's crazier, it's a bigger entertainer than David's last two laughathons, MUJHSE SHAADI KAROGI and MAINE PYAAR KYUN KIYA. Making people laugh is an art and David has mastered this art over the years. Like wine, he has only matured with time.

Let's come straight to the point. PARTNER is for those seeking non-stop entertainment. It's targeted at those who swear by masala films. Those who want to get transported to a world of make-believe in those 2 hours. It's definitely not for those who actually know what to expect, but pretend to rubbish escapist cinema. Also, it's not for certain critics [looking for art cinema in a masala entertainer] whose star ratings are a much bigger joke than the one David Dhawan pulls off with élan. The film works, and works big time.

In a nutshell, if you're into escapist cinema, if you're looking for laughter unlimited, if you're curious to watch the bonding between Govinda and Salman Khan, if you're a big fan of David Dhawan movies, if you believe in shelling out Rs. 150 for a ticket and expecting entertainment worth Rs. 200, PARTNER is just for you!

Prem [Salman Khan] is a 'date doctor' who, for a fee, has helped hundreds of men woo the women of their dreams. In his childhood, he understood a woman's likes and dislikes in food, clothes or men. His aim is to help those men who like or love women, not to take them to bed.

The ultimate professional bachelor, Prem discovers that his tried and tested tricks are no match for Naina [Lara Dutta], the one woman he truly loves, who works for a newspaper as a journalist.

He comes across Bhaskar [Govinda], who is in love with Priya [Katrina Kaif], the rich and famous daughter of a tycoon [Dilip Tahil]. Prem helps Govinda find his lady love and eventually also finds a soulmate in Naina.

Inspired by director Andy Tennant's likable Hollywood hit HITCH [2005; Will Smith, Eva Mendes, Kevin James, Amber Valletta], PARTNER is a true-blue David Dhawan film. It's glossy, has some stunning visuals, boasts of very catchy and hummable music and of course, hardly has any tense moment in those 16 reels.

What works is the casting of the two characters, who're as dissimilar as chalk and cheese. Although the romantic portions have the right chemistry between Salman and Lara and Govinda and Katrina, the USP is undoubtedly the terrific bonding between Salman and Govinda, whose on-screen escapades take the film to dizzier heights. Besides, the witty one-liners [Sanjay Chhel] are another ace that has the viewer in splits. The dialogues are truly funny and actually accentuate the impact of every sequence.

Any 'hitch'es? Yes, there's one! The track that leads to the misunderstandings in the climax looks unwarranted. Writer sahib [screenplay: Yunus Sajawal, David Dhawan], this track [Rajat Bedi, Aarti Chhabria] compels you to break into a yawn. Also, it adds to the length of the enterprise. But the subsequent portion [Govinda's honeymoon travails] is rip-roaringly funny.

David Dhawan gets it right yet again. He's on familiar ground and like a seasoned cricketer knows the game inside out. He hits a boundary yet again. Sanjay Chhel's dialogues are superb. Sajid-Wajid make a terrific comeback, with every song having the stamp of a chartbuster embossed on it. Even their picturizations [choreography: Bosco-Caesar] are excellent. Cinematography [Johny Lal] is first-rate. The film bears an opulent look all through. Costumes of Salman and Govinda [Alvira Khan Agnihotri] are stylish.

The question is, who steals the show? Actually both! Salman performs like never before. Sure, he looks dapper [one compliment he's heard umpteen times], but he packs in a solid punch whenever he's on screen. His fans will only multiply with this film. Govinda sets the screen blazing with an incredible performance. Although the actor has featured in a few films after a hiatus [BHAGAM BHAG, SALAAM-E-ISHQ], PARTNER is his comeback film. He has the viewer eating out of his hands actually. Those who felt that he's a spent force will have to eat back their words.

Lara Dutta looks gorgeous and pairs off very well with Salman. Katrina Kaif looks gorgeous and pitches in a natural performance. Rajpal Yadav is really funny. Puneet Issar is alright. Dilip Tahil is okay. Suresh Menon is excellent. Child artiste Ali Haji is wonderful. His confidence level is astonishing!

On the whole, PARTNER is a winner all the way. This one's a laugh-riot that will have the viewers laughing in the aisles and its distributors, laughing all the way to the bank. A sure-shot 'Hit'.

4/5( I'll make sure to leave my CEREBRAL CORTEX home)

Partner is a laugh riot!

Syed Firdaus Ashraf | July 20, 2007 14:40 IST

Partner is yet another David Dhawan laugh riot.

Inspired by the Will Smith-starrer Hitch, Partner, starring Salman Khan [Images] and Govinda, works wonderfully because of the chemistry between the two central characters.

Prem (Salman) plays a love guru, who gives advice to people who cannot win the hearts of the women they are in love with.

Enter Bhaskar (Govinda [Images]), who is in love with Priya (Katrina Kaif), who is worth Rs 1,000 crore.

Also Read: David's blue eyed boys

Bhaskar asks Prem for some love advice. Prem turns dissuades him because he feels Priya will never fall for Bhaskar because of their financial disparity.

The way Govinda manages to convince him is a treat to watch. His comic timing, his dancing abilities -- despite of the evident flab -- makes you wonder why our film industry has ignored such a talented actor for the last four years.

Salman, on his part, plays the dude, and gives Govinda -- who seemed to have been overshadowed by Akshay Kumar [Images] in his last film Bhagam Bhag -- enough scope to perform.

I repeat, the actors have great chemistry -- you never feel one is trying to outdo the other.

Sajid-Wajid's music and the lyrics and dialogues by Sanjay Chhel make this film work even better. The one-liners are hilarious, and very original.

Katrina does not have much to do except smile.

Lara Dutta, who plays a reporter, clicks more pictures than writing stories. One wonders if she is a reporter or a photographer. Her chemistry with Salman is great, however, and it's time she gets her due like her contemporary, Priyanka Chopra [Images].

Among the film's low points is Rajpal Yadav's character, Chotta Don. It is an imitation of Shah Rukh Khan's [Images] Don. Later in the film, Yadav's character just disappears.

me!

Also, the film's end is very abrupt.

But despite the shortcomings, you will not feel disappointed because you will have had a good laugh through most of the film. A must watch.

Rediff Rating:

3.5/5

** Katrina's smile, is worth a ticket too! She looks very cute, singing Gori de nakhre!

Man bhaskar you are the hero this time lol :D

Wow! Rediff rates it Laugh riot 3.5 out of 5, Indiafm rates it laugh riot 4 out of 5, but the comedy didn't click at all with me or the kids. Found only 5-6 minor comic situations. Nothing like No Entry, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Jodi # 1, Munna Bhai(s), Hera Pheri(es) etc.

Run Time 2 hrs 23 min
Sound: DD (No DTS)

--------------------
Saw it at AMC, so must be back up audio track. CD in my car stereo has more bass than the theatrical showing I saw. Perhaps, songs will have a much bigger impact in a DD theatre like Silvercity Brampton.

Movie Review : 'Partner', a feel-good laugh riot

Producer: Sohail Khan, K Sera Sera
Director: David Dhawan
Cast: Govinda, Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Lara Dutta, Dilip Tahil, Amey Pandya
Music: Sajid-Wajid

David Dhawan's films are predominantly about male bonding. If it was Govinda and Sanjay Dutt in 'Haseena Maan Jayegi' and 'Ek Aur Ek Gyarah', the new hit jodi is Govinda and Salman in the slickly-packaged 'Partner'.

But there is a difference. The focus has shifted somewhat from the irrepressible Govinda to shirtless Salman.

Here's something to think about - Why is Salman Khan named Sameer or Prem in every other film?

But he sure is super-cool as the love guru Prem in the latest laugh riot, inspired completely by Hollywood comedy 'Hitch'. Salman not only gives Will Smith a run for his money, he also matches step with Govinda on the elaborately choreographed sets with Sajid-Wajid's music embracing Bhandra-reggae and hip-hop.

Locked away far from reality, writer Sanjay Chhel's punning skills are legendary. He gives both his heroes great comic lines.

The best thing about 'Partner' is the wonderful chemistry between Salman and Govinda - whether they share jokes, jibes or discuss love.

The bonding is littered with broad bacchanalia. You get a feeling of attending a beach party - similar to the one in Dhawan's 'Mujhse Shaadi Karoge' starring Salman and Akshay Kumar.

The actresses are surprisingly spirited and upfront. Lara Dutta is specially outstanding as a single mother training her journalistic camera on funny man Rajpal Yadav, who plays Chota Don - an amusing mixture of Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan in the two versions of 'Don'.

The film's fun quotient is heightened through several devious devices like the late entry of child artist Ali Haji of 'Fanaa' fame who dunks Salman into dyed water.

Salman has always had fun with kids on screen. Remember 'Jab Pyar Kissi Se Jota Hai' with Aditya Narayan?

Not much has changed since that film five years ago. Salman is still fun, feisty and flirtatious. Govinda certainly has turned a corner. He does confident parodies of his old collaborations with David Dhawan, takes ghoulish delight in tormenting his screen-buddy by his antics and has a whale of time himself.

'Partner' is the kind of comedy that looks glossy and feels good. Go for it.

I haven't seen Partner (yet), but a peek at the synopsis leads me to believe it's "inspired by" Hitch. This is no shocker, though, as I think every David-Dhawan film borrows a decent chunk of its plot from another (usually Hollyood) movie (e.g., Chor Machaye Shor, Bluestreak; Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Bad Boys; Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Anger Management and Meet the Parents). At least in Partner's case, its source sucked, so few will be inclined to see if it "measures up" to the original.

indeed when orig source is sucky, e g taledega knights, the results are even more pathetic.

no doubt all DD films had been lifted, with variable results

Subhash K. Jha speaks about Partner

By Subhash K. Jha, July 21, 2007 - 11:13 IST

Here's some serious shrink think. Why is Salman Khan named Sameer or Prem in every other film?

And don’t look too deep. But David Dhawan's films are predominantly about male bonding. If it was Govinda and Sanjay Dutt in Haseena Maan Jayegi and Ek Aur Ek Gyarah, it's the new 'Jodi No Wham' Govinda and Salman in the slicky-packaged tongue-in-shriek and very very adaptive Partner.

But with a difference. The focus has shifted somewhat from the irrepressible you-can't-put-a-cool-man-down Govinda to shirtless Salman.(He even strips at the security check at the airport without being asked to do so!).

As the love guru Prem, Salman is super-cool. He not only gives Will Smith from Hitch—oh, didn't I tell you, this is a frame-by-frame copy of the Hollywood film about a love guru who counsels losers on how to win female hearts— a run for the madness, Salman also matches Govinda step-by-step on those elaborately choreographed set pieces with Sajid-Wajid's music embracing Bhangda-reggae and hip-hop as though they were running out of esteem.

But we forget….we're in never-never land. Locked away far from reality. Writer Sanjay Chhel's punning skills are legendary. He gives both his heroes wham-lines which make the audiences go weak in their knees.

But I still say, Mr Chhel(God bless his puns) gave his best lines to Sanjay Dutt in Khubsoorat. The khubsoorat thing about Partner is to watch the wonderful chemistry between the two heroes as they journey from jokes and jibes to love and other heterosexual vibes.

The bonding is littered with broad bacchanalia. You get the same feeling of attending a beach party that you did while watching Salman whoop it up with Akshay Kumar in David Dhawan's Mujhse Shaadi Karoge.

The girls are surprisingly spirited and upfront. Lara Dutta is specially outstanding as the single mother training her journalistic camera on the trying-hard-to-be-funny Rajpal Yadav who plays Chota Don, a mixture of Mr Bachchan and Mr Khan in the two versions of Don, and quite an amusing anomaly, if you don't think about it.
The bak-bak never stops. And the fun quotient is heightened through several devious devices, like the belated entry of that wonder-kid from Fana (Ali Haji) who pees in pubic water basins and dunks Salman into dyed water.

Salman has always had fun with kids on screen. Remember Aditya Narayan and Salman in Jab Pyar Kissi Se Jota Hai?

Not much has changed since that film five years ago. Salman is still fun feisty and flirtatious. Govinda certainly has turned a corner. He does confident parodies of his old collaborations with David Dhawan, takes ghoulish delight in tormenting his screen-buddy by his antics and has himself a whale of time…in and out of the sky-blue waters.

Partner is the kind of comedy that looks glossy and feels good. Go for it.
