(There's nothing to spoil in this hunk-o'-chunk-o'-shit feature:)
Indian comedy, for the past three or four years, has never ceased to amaze me. I'm constantly taken aback, it seems, by just how fucking terrible a so-called comedy can turn out to be. Apna Sapna Money Money stayed faithful to this track record, offering not one laugh, not one chuckle, not one inspired moment; really, not one reason for a person not to be out for the director's blood after having just spent money (pun un-intended) to sit through the shit.
What did I like? Absolutely nothing. Rajpal Yadav managed to be bearable, and he was probably the best part of the movie. When the best part of a movie is something that can just about be "beared," what the hell can be said about everything else? A song or two didn't make me want to killl myself — though, to be fair, one of the two was ripped off a Dhoom 2 number. Ritiesh Deshmukh was as acceptable as he could have been in such tripe, as was Suniel Shetty. Oddly, Jackie Shroff is one actor who started his career on a positive trend of delivering fine performances in good films, and has now resorted to sucking garbage in every piece-of-shit flick around. I've absolutely hated him since Boom, and I don't remember his having done one movie since in which he redeemed himself as an actor.
Can anyone even name one successful (as in "it's funny"; not, "it managed to defy all laws of nature, and make a dime or more of profit") Indian comedy made within the past five years (2001–2006)? It doesn't have to be a Chupke Chupke or a Golmaal (Hrishikesh Mukherjee); just give me something marginally better than a No Entry or Golmaal (2006). I hope something's out there, because Apna Sapna Money Money just can't be the "max." level to which we, as an industry, have sunk.
