this does not look good... :?

Oh 'Darling'!
After Hours Correspondent

Ram Gopal Varma is known for his mastery over horror and thriller stories. With 'Darling', his under-production T-Series movie starring Fardeen Khan, Esha Deol and Isha Koppikar, the prolific filmmaker blends the two genres to come up with a refreshing tale.

"It's a sort of a socio thriller with horror and comical elements in it," is how Varma describes 'Darling'.

Interestingly, 'Darling' was earlier called 'Baby'. But a quick call from actor-turned-director Sajid Khan ensured that Ramu goes in for a different title. Sajid's upcoming directorial film is titled 'Hey Baby' and he wanted to avoid a clash. 'Darling', as Divya Khosla of T-Series puts it, "this film is Ram Gopal Varma's return to the musical genre. His last musical was 'Rangeela' and after that, he started concentrating more on stories and concepts. Here, we have given stress on the story as well as the music."

After Hours brings you the first look of the film...

'Humko maloom hai… is mine!'

Subhash K Jha

All of 19, and G V Prakash is raring to go where his uncle A R Rahman has already been. Rahman's talented young nephew (he's Rahman's sister's son) Prakash was lately in Mumbai working over the music of Shirish Kunder's Jaan-E-Mann.

He's reluctant to reveal the extent of his contribution to the Jaan-E-Mann soundtrack. "Anu Malik has been calling me repeatedly. I don't know what to say… The fact is 'Humko maloom hai ishq masoom hai' is mine, completely mine. Every note in that is by me."

Er…hasn't Anu been fuming on television about a Mumbai Mirror story that quoted a source as saying the songs were done by Prakash?

Prakash sounds confused by this attempt to steal his credit. "I don't know about all this. I just want to do my work. When Sajid Nadiadwala and Shirish Kunder called me to work on the music in Jaan-E-Mann I happily went from Chennai to Mumbai," he says.

Prakash is looking at a career as a music composer in the Hindi as well as Tamil film industry. He says, "Because all the good movies and technicians are in these two languages. I agree you can hear a heavy Rahman influence in 'Humko maloom hai'. I'm influenced by him because I've been training under him for four years. But I'm trying to forge my own identity as a composer. Fortunately, my first song in Hindi for Shirish's film has been well-received. "

Prakash cannot speak Hindi at all. He was therefore at a loss when Gulzarsaab's intricate words were offered to him for composing. "But Shirish Kunder explained the words to me. So it was easy," he says.

Prakash is now working on Ram Gopal Varma's Darling in Tamil, starring Madhavan. "The Hindi music is done by Amar Mohile. I've already composed one song for the Tamil version I'm doing a completely original background score and totally original songs for the Tamil version of Darling."

GV Prakash's Tamil debut Veyyil wasn't bad. Not great, a little too Rahmanish at times, but shows potential.

Busy times for Maddy

Subhash K Jha

Award-winning neo-realistic film Domibivili Fast directed by Nishikant Kamath is being remade in Tamil with Madhavan in the lead. The film will be produced by Abbas-Mustan. Confirming this, actor Madhavan says, "Shashikant Kamath's script truly charged me. It's gritty and hard-hitting. I haven't done this before. After Rituprano Ghosh's Sunglass, my appetite for neo-realistic cinema is whetted.” In the meantime, Madhavan is all set to play the lead role in the Tamil version of Ram Gopal Varma's Darling. "We're looking for a suitable title as the title Darling won't work in Tamil. You get a far more responsive distribution network and audience in Tami Nadu if the title is in Tamil," says Madhavan.

UTV is also all set to produce a film in Tamil with Madhavan in the lead.A pleased Madhavan says, "It's a busy time for me. I've signed nine new films including a Hindi film by Sanjay Daima who directed me in Ramji Londonwale. As for the Tamil remakes of Hindi and Marathi films, it isn't because of scarcity of scripts in Tamil. It's because I was really taken in by the scripts of Darling and Domibivili Fast.”

The plot sounds v interesting. sounds a bit like 'Road'( thriller with comedy/horror )
Agreed about fardeen and Isha. Why does he cast such sloppy actors? That movie has Saif Ali Khan and Urmila written over it.

(or Vivek Oberoi and Isha Koppiker)
