I didn't think it was anything special. I felt it was too long, and humour overkill for most of its running time. I’m accustom to films with “Naughty” humour, so I didn't find BORAT: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan offensive or insulting; I just found it unfunny and boring.

The idea of BORAT works best as a short skit, normally broadcasted on his show at HBO/CHANNEL FOUR.

However, I'm in the minority as the rest of the cinema audience was lapping it up during screening.....which is shame really as I wanted to enjoy it with them...but couldn't.

If it has anything positive going for it, then its certainly better then Baron Cohen's previous outing (as a leading man) in that bloody awful film "Ali G - Indahouse."

This would make for a good topic...If you had to choose films, which offer quality comedy about the "Cultural Learnings of America" what would you recommend?

Sacha Baron Cohen is making a Bruno movie next.

Sunny, you think this film will do well in the UK, where SBC is better known?

I saw it in a packed theater too. I guess Cohen doing all that crazy promotion for BORAT in that last two months reallly worked.

just got a message from my buds saying they went to go see it AGAIN last night, with their cousins. lol...it wasn't that good - waste of money, imho, but is worth getting a DVD of, esp with BONUS materials. I normally don't care for bonus/extras, but this film seems a good candidate for bloopers/deleted scenes.

I haven't seen the TV promos, are they different from the movie itself? I know Cohen was on late night tv shows, but the half hour promotion, are those scenes included in the movie?

Sunny, although I was laughing most of the time, I kept looking at my watch to see when it would let out. I was tired/sleepy. Some scenes weren't so funny, since this resembles Tom Green like material, but yes, the STORY kept me interested - yes, I said story :P (pamela and misc cultural issues). It is only an hour and some change (10mins?) long?

The BORAT film will do well financially, thanks to good PR from BORAT himself (which was funnier then the film).

On the other issue...I think Bruno is his weakest character, out of his whole creations, so I doubt I'll be rushing to see that one.

Gone to no.1 spot in US;

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6119960.stm

I had free preview tickets to watch this about a month ago but couldn’t make it for various reasons. There was a massive preview campaign before the official launch of the movie in the UK – unusually high number of preview screening and shown months in advance – seems to have aid off by the hype machine. Hoping will still catch this sometime soon.
