Caught this film on DVD. Wow! what a masterpiece. I won't call it just a film. Just a great depiction of real life, real life events, intrigugingly told. I found it better than Salaam Bombay and I think Naseeruddin Shah is even better as a director- story/ event teller than he is/ was an actor.

10/10.

Don't understand how films like this are trashed by critics and ' not patronized by' film going public.

I thought this was a solid attempt by naseer… though far far from a masterpiece

for one - the 9/11 ending was ridiculous and unneeded, it almost ruins all the good that had been done to that point
and second - the english dialogues in the film seemed completely contrived and exaggerated, especially during the ayesha takia story

though most else was well done…
- the script(until the ending at least) was excellent, each of the separate stories were equally engaging, and naseer did a great job in interweaving all 4 threads. if I had to choose 1 though, I wld certainly take the irfan thread as the best of the film, in fact it wld have been great to watch an entire film on this story alone, it had so much potential..
- this was also one of the best acted films I have seen from an ensemble cast - suhasini mulay, saroj khan, irfan, karan khanna, jimmy, ravi baswani, ayesha takia - all acted really well. though I did think that konkona sen and the actor that played her mother-in-law were both terribly irritating, probably the only blemishes in the cast
- and then hemant chaturvedi cinematography was terrific

overall, I wld say it was one of the better films of this year, though not entirely successful

Without 9-11, plot disappears.

Actually, it's because of this episode that I thought it's better than Salaam Bombay.
