Times Of India Group moves into film production

Bhuvan Lall in New Delhi 23 November 2004 04:00

India's largest media company, The Times of India Group, has moved into film production, backing English language feature Being Cyrus.

Directed and co-written by Homi Adajania, the film is billed as a cross between a psychological drama and a comedy in which a dope smoking retired sculptor, who lives in a secluded Indian hill station, opens his house to a stranger, Cyrus.

The film stars Saif Ali Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia and Honey Chhaya and is edited by Jon Harris (Snatch, Layer Cake).

The film is produced by Miracle Cinefilms and Serendipity Films for the Times of India Group.

Vineet Jain, managing director of The Times Group, commented: "We made this film especially to cater to European, North American, and Japanese audiences and it is in the genre of world cinema on the lines of Amores Perros. The film's uniqueness lies in the originality of the story that could well have been produced in Spain or Italy, for that matter, even Sicily. And its novelty is the Parsi family backdrop and the distinctive look of the film"

The Times Group's business activities span publishing, film entertainment, radio, television, events, music publishing, retail, internet and multimedia. It publishes India's largest daily newspapers The Times of India and Economic Times.

The poster reminds me of the strange but brilliant BEING JOHN MALKOVICH. I hope they didn't copy that film.

Ha! Anwar. Actually, that's what I thought since (this is a stupid notion) they share practically the same title and the poster somewhat looks the same, but the plot for both of these films are entirely different. I'm expecting something worthwile out of "Being Cyrus". Let's see. Northern Audience/Japanese audience? I guess it means that since "Being Cyrus" will appeal only to a select bunch due to the subject matter, no songs, and only has a running length of 90 minutes, that the foreign audience will be more than willing to embrace it.

First Look of 'Being Cyrus'!

By Our Correspondent ©2005 Bollyvista.com

Earlier titled 'Akhouri', newcomer Homi Adajania's 'Being Cyrus' is carrying rave reviews. We saw the first look of the film, which shows the bare torso of Saif Ali Khan in a bathtub.

The film, which has been complete for long now, also features Naseerudin Shah, Dimple Kapadia and Boman Irani in stellar roles.

Lets see how this one shapes to be ...., It sounds like it might be an extension of what he played in Darna Mana Hai ( which BTW I loved for its wackiness !)

I found this to be the most innovative film site ever. IF the site is any indication of the film, then I am sure htis is going to be one great film. I say bring it on.
