Bollywood hunk Salman Khan is sentenced to five years in prison for poaching a rare buck in a desert wildlife preserve.

Khan spent a night in jail after a court in Jodhpur, western India, handed down the verdict.

Being a superstar didn’t guarantee him VIP treatment, Khaleej Times Online reports. Khan was fed plain flat bread, vegetable curry and given an earthenware jar of water like all other inmates. He was not even allowed to phone his mother Salma, who collapsed and was hospitalised after the verdict.

Prison director M. L Chauhan said Tuesday that the only concession Khan received was a cell to himself to guarantee his safety.

Khan has denied the charges but the actor has to spend at least one more night in prison before his attorneys can apply for bail because the courts are closed for the local holidays.
