I just saw it, and I have to say, "eh." I went in with high expectations about this thing: the commercials and title made it seem that the film would really be "smart"; a lot of people seem to hold it in high regard, as far as comedies are concerned; Ebert and freakin' Roeper (I think) each gave it their "thumb's up"; etc. Having seen the film, however, it struck me as little more than just another dumb comedy-cum-romantic-comedy. There's no real "heart," no tangible "idea" behind the film, no genuinely "hillarious" moments; it's just totally average. American Pie was awesome, as were Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and Some Like It Hot. I didn't expect The 40-Year-Old Virgin to hit highs such as those films did, but I did expect it to out-do most other run-of-the-mill crap. What a disappointment... :?

I don't expect much from these types of films, thus I enjoyed it. The scene where the virgin is asking "questions" at the book store is too funny. I'll remember that for years to come.

some of it was just over board. come on, he can't figure out condoms? I'm sure he's made some miniature condoms for his action figurines

btw, I watched this DVD after watching an Indian DVD. I wanted to cry, cause this video was so much easier on my eyes. day & night difference. suddenly I was able to sit closer to the screen and relax

Funnier than most comedies, but not hilarious. Carrell's lucky they put a strong supporting cast around him, because he can't carry a lead.
It had alot good one liners. The old desi guy in the movie was kinda funny!!

I liked it more than most comedies. Didn't like it as much the second time, but it was still good. I saw it when it opened, so I didn't hear any hype before seeing it.

Watching it just sort of reminded me that American films aren't all that "superior" to Indian films (as plenty seem, often, to claim is the case). In my opinion, The 40-Year-Old Virgin was hardly better than Garam Masala. Also, that the hell was the deal with the "Aquaris" song at the end? Talk about out of place.
