I just saw Koyla on DVD (I'd seen it when it came out, some years ago, but had forgotten most of the movie). It's actually all right. I mean, it's not, by any stretch of the imagination, a "great movie," but I can think of way worse ways to kill some time (e.g., Dil TO Pagal Hai). Madhuri Dixit is just awesome, Shah Rukh Khan is more than adaquete, the songs and background score are equal in their sublime quality, it's just not nearly so atrocious as many have claimed. Sure, Khan's "recovery run up the mountain" is straight out of Rocky IV ("DRAG...," um, "RAJA!!!"), and the ending climax (Khan in fire, running burnt; Raja gets death in fire) and Shah Rukh Khan's voice are both clearly "inspired by" the ga-bah-za-jillion times better Agneepath; but, it's still an altogether watchable film. Anyone have any comments about the movie?

Despite some flaws that are to be expected since it's a bollywood movie, it is an enjoyable movie. One of the last of it's kind. There's not many films like this being made today, for better or for worse. These action films set in rural areas were made in the 80's and 90's but bollywood has moved away from these type of films and make most films usually about collage teenagers in cities or hollywood rip-offs.

I wonder if there is a decent transfer on DVD? If there is, I'd pick it up.

My Eros DVD (no "2in1") is about as good as one might expect: original aspect ratio, OK sound, "acceptable" picture quality (NOT good, but better than absolute trash).

By the way, your "Despite some flaws that are to be expected since it's a bollywood movie [...]" comment is supremely offensive and bigoted.
