I am surprised nobody knew about this excellent comedian and his passing away (I searched and no threads mentioned him).. I found out during Filmfare Awards when they showed the pics of all the actors/actresses who we lost in 2005. I was saddened as this was one actor who never over acted like Johnny Lever .. A true loss

Laxmikant Berde (1954-2004)

Popular actor-comedian Laxmikant Berde (nicknamed Lakshya) passed away yesterday morning at 2.45 am following kidney failure.

Berde was 50 and is survived by his actress-wife Priya Arun and two children.

Berde started his acting career at a young age when he would participate in plays at school and college.

But it was after he joined the Konkanast Samaj Ganesh Festival in Girgaum that he became seriously involved with the craft.

Soon he became deeply involved with the Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangh. In 1983 his first major hit play was with his brother Purshottam Berde’s Turtur.

Soon Berde started getting offers to act in Marathi films and was seen in popular films like Dhumdhadaka, Hamal De Dhamal, Chalre Lakshya and Thar Tharat etc.

Berde’s first Hindi film was Sooraj Bharjatya’s Maine Pyar Kiya with Salman Khan.

Soon he became so popular that he soon became a stock Bollywood comedian. Some of his most popular films include Mere Sapno Ki Rani, Arzoo, Saajan, Beta and 100 Days.

Recently Berde floated his own production house, Abhinay Arts. His company was named after his three-year old son.

Berde’s cremation yesterday took place at the Oshiwara crematorium.

The news of his passing away was not covered widely. Screenindia did mention his name in Jan 2005 Summary of "Hindi Film Personalities that passed away in 2004" that I copied and pasted on zulm.

BTW, is it just a glitch or really over 260 viewings of this post that has no replies ??

There must have been a similar summary coverage of Hindi film personalities that passed away in 2005 ?? Did any one see it?? It'll be useful to post that as well.

A few names I recall are:
Ramanand Sagar
Parveen Babi
Subodh Mukherjee
Ismaile Merchant

And Nadira in 2006.

And, a few more names that I picked up from Filmfare awards tribute:
(Sure, only a couple that I didn't know, but didn't realize that they passed away in 2005)

Sunil Dutt
Amrish Puri
Harmesh Malhotra (Nagina fame)
Mahipal (Mahua fame)
Pran Lal Mehta
Pramod Chakrovorthy

I'm going to enter all these names in thread :
