Was just wondering, which music director provided music for most number of Indian Films.

Saw a few pages of listings via imdb and already found a few surprises. imdb listings may or may not be complete, but I saw the following:

AR Rahman -------------- about 125 films

LakshmiKant Pyarelal ------------ about 500 films

Shankar JaiKishan -------------- about 133 films

KalyanjiAnnandji ---------------------- about 170 films

Ilyaraja ---------------------- guess how many??

Lots other to check. Any volunteers??

But, guess how many film music by Ilyaraja or may be some other music director has even more. Just mind boggling.

Oops, no suspense here. In another presently active thread, it has been mentioned as over 1000 for Illyaraja.

Guiness Record ??

IR scored about 850 according to IMDB. I have a list that goes over 1000 but that includes dubbing (dont know if we should consider them). He must be around 900+ by now, but few months back I saw some discussion in tfm (tamil film music) forum about 1000th movie for his home production. Dont know the real count, but definitely a guiness record.
