No mention of Abhay :(, Which I think is his most visually interesting film and even more interesting that it's based on a novel that he himself wrote.

Its definitely true that Kamal's films are usually inspired by some foreign film. Nayakan has some direct lifts from The Godfather, though as a whole I wouldn't say that its a remake or copy, though it was obviously a big influence on the style and the idea of making a film on a mafia figure.

To this day i am confused with this movie - was it a spoof or a serious film , i somehow sense the director and/or Kamal lost direction after a decent start. i have seen it twice and both times i completely dismissed it as pathetic. I had a sour feeling that “he was so full of himself”

That said, i love the surreal imagery after he escapes from the asylum and the neat usage of anime - never seen that kind before in Indian cinema except of course in Hey Ram ( again a Kamal Hassan production !)

It gets pretty stupid in the second half, but the first half's good, and its a fun film anyways. Too long, though. Still, I've watched it 3 or 4 times.

I don't think Suresh Krishna did much directing on this film. When in his life did he ever direct anything so technically proficient? I'm sure Kamal and Tirru were doing a lot of the work in that department.

And yes, Kamal is full of himself :D
