Ae mere pyare watan from Kabuliwala is one of my favourite songs ever. I've shared many great memories listening to this song with my grand parents. RIP Manna Dey.

Only a few(that I'm aware of) artist are still alive today from the B&W era of Hindi cinema.

Very sad to hear of Manna Day passing away.
Very fondly remember chance meeting with him and his troupe in the 1980s. Spent almost 2 hrs with him. Very humble gentleman.

As per Manna Dey himself, in one of the concerts he said that the most difficult song that he ever was given to sing was from the film Dooj Ka Chaand, "Mujhe Gaindva Na Maro" (remember that sequence in the film where, as per the script, the gramophone record gets stuck repeat, it was actually sang that way) and then he sang this song flawlessly in the concert. The music director had told him that no other singer can sing this song, except you. Another song that was requested, he said that they haven't prepared this song but will try. He sang that song, as well as, music directed to his musicians, live.

Earlier this month Krishna Shah, producer of SHALIMAR passed away. He was mostly active in Hollywood and made just one Hindi film, Shalimar.

Came across this note from year 2003:

Shalimar English version was only 89 min long and it earned the producer a decent profit.

BTW, the producer (Krishna Shah), was second only to George Lucas in his film studies.

However, the film flopped in India, though Shah pointed out that its international version, Deadly Fief (must have been 'Deadly Thief', but 'Deadly Fief' is how it was in that printout) (only 89 min long, with no songs), earned him a decent profit.

Remarkable that Krishna Shah was only second to George Lucas in his film studies.

I have a dvd of the english ver of shalimar -- it's shorter and serves its purpose. Unfortunately the dvd presents the film cropped to a 4:3 ratio. There is a 3D ver of the film on the dvd as well.

Krishna Shah -- quite remarkable!

Jai Santoshi Maa actress dies of heart attack
By IndiaFM News Bureau, June 20, 2007 - 11:55 IST

Anita Guha, who became famous after playing the lead role in the 1975 blockbuster, Jai Santoshi Maa/ passed away last night following a cardiac arrest. She was in her 70’s. Guha was suffering with bad health since a while and was also hospitalised.

Guha had come down to Mumbai to take part in a beauty pageant and landed up with film assignments. She did a number of films in her career, but it was her portrayal of Sita in Sampoorna Ramayan in 1961 that made her famous. This success was followed by Jai Santoshi Maa (1975) which was one of the biggest hits of that era. Anita also starred in Sanjog (1961) and multi-starrer Nagin (1976).

Guha was good friends with veteran actresses, Mala Sinha and Helen.

------------------------------------------
As I remember froms 60s-70s, Anita Guha appeared in lots of religious films.
imdb.com lists only 30 films to her credit but I'm sure there are countless more.

Anita Guha was married to a Dutt, so search for Anita Dutt in imdb. She plays Rajesh's godmother in Aradhana (1969).

I'm not sure if IMDB listing under Anita Dutt and under Anita Guha are for the same person or are mixed up. Nagin is listed under name Anita Dutt at IMDB and is also in the news quote. Other films mentioned in the news quote are under Anita Guha, at IMDB.

Anyway, it was in 2007 that only 30 Anita Guha films were listed at IMDB. Today, it's 58. So, more film names are getting added routinely.

Also, under Anita Dutt, it's only 6 films that are listed at IMDB for Anita Dutt.

I still think there should be many more Anita Guha films than the, 58 plus 6, listed at IMDB for Anita Guha/ Anita Dutt.
