Recently, Time magazine announced its list of the 100 greatest films of all time, and the eclectic selection includes five Indian films.

While none would have the gall to question the brilliance of the selected Indian classics like Satyajit Ray's Apu Trilogy, Guru Dutt's Pyaasa and Mani Ratnam's Nayakan, rediff.com decided to ask some Indian filmmakers and critics what they felt were the best Indian films of all time.

This is a special month-long feature.

Appropriately, we start the ball rolling with Bollywood's Showman, Subhash Ghai.

Taal ?????? Is this a joke or has Subhash Ghai really lost it? His whole list is so cliched and then to add 'Taal' to the list is like saying, don't take me seriously.

I think after Roger Ebert included Taal in his recent "Overlooked Film Festival" Mr Ghai decided it is a "classic"

I will not go to the extent of calling him a jerk, he knows his "stuff" ( the commentary on Citizen Kane alone is worth his existence) . But you are right he is "ethnically biased" and salivates for anything/everything Aishwarya.

Only Ghai and Himself:

Can include Taal in BEST 5 EVER HINDI FILMS! No one else will ever have GUTTS to do that!

I have always seen him and the Richard Roeper
diametrical on most of the films, Roger always has his thumb up, for Entertainment value! for him! not for substance!
I can quote thousands of examples here but this is not the point!

Taran , Moran is also the one who wants to go by viewer's pulse that what will sell to audience to satisfy their money value!

If this is good Journalism? then both Roger Ebert and Taran are GREAT(TOP 5) Critics!

Taran said KFHH will be a hit..so good film, good critic.

Imho, good critic is like Khaled! who even does not know how to make a good film is on the track, while dissecting it! Irrespective, which Brand, Which Mark, What BO, SRK or not!!

If All TRAishwarya films are CRITICS delights ? then God save us! From those Crooks! :(
