Azmi, Murthy chosen for lifetime award

IIFA stays upto the image of being different from the run-of-the-mill Bollywood awards.

Not believing in reserving the lifetime achievement awards for only those who have retired, IIFA has selected actress Shabana Azmi and veteran cinematographer V.K. Murthy for the same.

Associated with the film industry for almost 45, cinematographer V.K. Murthy, has shot almost all of Guru Dutt's films, Aar Paar, Mr & Mrs 55, Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, to name a few. He was the first man to shoot a film in cinemascope. Murthy's lightning techniques are considered masterpieces in Hindi cinema even today.

The prima Donna of new age cinema Shabana has been chosen for her outstanding achievements in acting.

They deserve this and more. There is no doubt in my mind that Murthy was the best cinematographer India has ever produced and I am pretty sure the current crop of elite cinematographers in India will agree with that.

A joy to watch Pyaasa again and again - Ah wishing for a better print one day :(

And as for Azmi , she is in a class of her own

Kudos for these obvious choices
