'Mughal-E-Azam' in Pakistan!

Musharraf has allowed the classic 'Mughal-E-Azam' (coloured and restored) to release in Pakistan, thus breaking the decades long ban on distribution of Indian films there. The film was distributed and marketed in the US and UK recently by UTV Motion Pictures, where it did decent business. We expect the film to do rocking business in Pakistan!

Bring Indian films: SOS from Pak

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/arti ... S~from~Pak
ISLAMABAD: Cinema owners in Pakistan have asked the Government to allow screening of Indian films, saying it was the only way to revive the declining industry.

Delegations of Cinema Owners' Association (COA) and Film Producers' Association (FPA) from Lahore met government officials in Islamabad and asked them to allow screening of five Indian films in exchange of five Pakistani with India, a media report said here on Wednesday.

"We have resumed our cricket ties and started trade with India. I see we no reason why we cannot screen Indian movies in local cinemaa," Qaiser Sanaullah Khan, Chairman of Cinema Management Association was quoted as saying by the Daily Times. "I hope the government allows cinema owners to screen Indian films," COA chairman Zaraiz Lashari said.

"I met the government officials in Islamabad and asked them to help save the industry. After all if the cinema industry closes down, local films cannot be screeened," said FPA Chairman Zaraiz Lashari.

Pakistan's cinema industry is is dire straits. Cinema halls are disapperaing fast and are turning into car showrooms and even petrol pumps. There were around 1,400 cinemas in Pakistan in the 1980's but now only 150 remain, the paper said.

The delegations said cinema owners would be willing to pay 150 per cent entertainment tax in case Indian movies were screened and it could be major source of revenue for the government.

---------------------------

It sure can also be an SOS from Bollywood. With over 80% of Bollywood films flopping, they sure need to expand the market as well.

Allowing 5 Pakistani films in India--Unless Pakistan allows 5 indian films in Pakistan--How ironic--
India will only allow Pakistani films to be screened in India under CONDITIONS

I'm not a politician and hence avoided all political debates so far. Looks like monizam is succeeding. Congrats.

Now, my 2 cents:
The proposal comes from, "Cinema Owners' Association (COA) and Film Producers' Association (FPA) from Lahore " and not from India.

As far as I understand, Indian film producers want free filmi trade; no restrictions from either side, except for local censors. :P

All I did was to explore your 2 cents...But it does seem that a negative view of Pakistan is allowed but not towards India

Whatever is to show in India should be censored by India and Whatever is to show in Pakistan should be censored by Pakistan.

If VZ or GAdar or name any movies to be shown in Pakistan, e.g Pukar, then it has to go under kenchi excessively. more so, if country is still conservative then all mahesh bhatt garbage would be trashed too.

But I dont know where are Pakistan censor board's standards right now?
or May be General Sahab will censor those films by himself with his own vision, and the family and friends will get to watch those FREE too!!

I was really really surprised that Mr President did aknowledge watching VZ ( must be on pirated DVD/VCD)and then objecting political inaccuracy, but he never seemed to have objection the way VZ depicted culture of that country!

Because there is no direct answers then I have to assume that Pakistani films are not being screened in India..

Yes they are not being shown in India...but no reason why they cannot be screened..but in all probability, in its present scenario, no chance of Pakistani films being screened in India...maybe in the future.

1.) Very few people in India know abt Pakistani film stars. (except maybe Salma Agha, Zeba Bakhtiar and ..if you count Adnan Sami Khan). The generation Noor Jehan is gone now.

2.) No distributor in India is going to risk his money to show a Pakistani film cos it eventually boils down to business (and not what you are trying to insinuate through your posts  )

3.) With the advent of joint productions...(e.g., Khamosh Paani ..ironically Bilal Musharaff had a chance to watch a Pakistani film in India !!) I am sure Pakistani films can be screened in India...

4.) Censor board in Pakistan ? Arsh Miyan..I want some Pushto films..zara hamein bhejo toh kuch :D.... I want to see what is the "fuss" allabout :D

5.) The last I heard... Lata Mangeshkar is still banned in Pakistan :p

MIYAN THESE ARE POLITICAL GIMMICKS OF PAGDI WAALAS AND KURSI WAALAS, NOTHING TO DO WITH SENSE AND SENSIBILITIES OF A COMMON MAN!UNFORTUNATELY!

JAB JAB CHAHAEN LADVA DAEN, JAB AUR JAISE CHAHAEN MILVA DAEN!
jab chahaen, dvd per film dikha daen, jab chahen theatre maen lagva daen!

I dont want to start a hot, fired argument here and I am not defending Pakistani or Pushtu films, as a matter of fact never seen one!

As a good citizen and well wisher, I have my reservations.

Indian films are dirt cheap there on dvds, vcds and on cable too, same day/date release

BTW! Pakistani UMRAO was remade in India as flop DEEDAR E YAAR with Indian UMRAO in that.

In Pakistani film Umrao was played by Late Rani, imho, was one of the best most versatile actress Pakistani cinema has seen.

There was a Pakistani TV serial of Umrao Jaan. Saw one or two episodes, which looked pretty good.
