The well advertised film Shock with Prashant and Meena in main character is a Thriller in Tamil after a long time. After a long gap Prashant has got a good story to show his talents.

They say it is the remake of Ram Gopal varma's 'Booth'.

This has been made to talk in Tamil by Producer Thyagarajan, father of Prashanth.

The story goes on like this. Prashant with his young wife Meena comes to a 13 floored building. He takes a flat in 12th floor. He comes to know later that a lady Manju with her 7 year old son had fallen from that flat and committed suicide. Though Prashant is now aware of this fact; he just ignores it. But Manju appears to Meena now and then and make her tremble. Prashant Meglects it as a hallucination and takes Meena to a doctor. Doctor also certifies this is a pure and simple psychic case, and the same can be cured by medicines.

At this juncture, the flats watchman is murdered horribly. Inspector Thyagarajan comes for an enquiry. Only Prashant knows Meena is the murderess, but he hides the fact. He ties Meena with a rope when she comes to attack him. Through the maid servant He understands that, Manju has 'Taken over' Meena under her control. So he brings Suhasini who is capable of exorcism. Then many unknown facts about Manju comes to surface. How Meena has been rescued from Manju - the spirit forms part of the rest of the story.

As Meena was watching TV, she was able to see Manju that time, 'Shock' starts. The murder of Apartment watchman is a shock with suspense. But tell, intervel, you feel as though nothing has been told.

After intervel, film runs fast with thrill. The flash back of Manju is told is one scene is an intelligent move. The director should be appreciated. Editor has to be patted on the back. There are no fighting scenes, yet the maintain Thrill. There are no songs, Hence the speed of the film is not affected. But to present a picture without any song shows the guts of the producer.


Prashant has done his role very well as a husband with lot of love for his wife. But Meena has done an excellent job. Even it you say that Meena only holds the entire film high, will not be an exaggeration. Her movements with love with Prashant in the stairs, After seeing the ghost, she suffers opening her mouth to call her husband, in all these scenes she excels.

Ghost attacks Prashant, After tying in the bed, Meena talks like Manju, then talks as usual, when K.R. Vijaya comes in a dull scene as the mother of Manju, the Ghost in Meena talks to her with love.

Abbas comes as Villain looks an unfortunate person. Suhasini as exorcist, K.R.Vijaya, Sarath Babu are all in small characters. Even the producer Thyagarajan has not projected himself. Servant maid kalairani, the old lady in the neighbourhood, both of them instead of creating thrill, make our life miserable.

The Cinematography by Panneer Selvam, sound effects and background Music by Saleem Sulaiman are plus points for the film. Thyagarajan has taken responsibility, of Story, Screenplay, dialogue, Production, and direction very well and carried out a very satisfactory job.

'Shock' sends chill through the spire!
