Veena's picture is about halfway down Page 9.

Although only in a few films, she got some of the most historical mother's role... There is a great sense of pride in the way she delivers her dialogues, and her voice and appearance were just so grand...

She is the proud and furious Queen of Taj Mahal whom Bina Rai challenges: Jurm-E-Ulfat Pe Hamen Log Saza Dete Hain...Aap Daulat Ke Tarazu Mein Dilon Ko Tolen...

And then there was Pakeezah... In the climax scene just after Meena Kumari's glass dance, she holds the show: "Shahubdin, apni be-abruyi ka tamasha dekho..." :D

She was amazing in Heer Ranjha too, as she collaborate with Jeevan to force Heer into marrying her brother (everyone other than Ranjha was like a brother to Heer  )

But most interesting was her role in Do Raaste, in which she gives a very emotional performance on her deathbed... the scene in which is confusing Balraj Sahni with Rajesh Khanna was so realistically portrayed!!

The thread started of with TOP heroines of yesteryears... But now seems to be extending to all females that have ever appeared in Bollywood, including all vamps, dancers, motiyans and buddhiyans! Rana have suggested including men that played females in the olden days too... !

I haven't had a chance to check Ram Aur Shyam starcast from it's DEI/ BEI DVD. Nadira is not listed in Ram Aur Shyam starcast in the Indiafm database. Perhaps, because there are so many others big actors in R&S.

But, I'm sure of Nadira from Ram Aur Shyam release publicity in 1967.
Let's see who races to check DEI/ BEI DVD to confirm or deny Nadira in Ram Aur Shyam. :?:

Looks like it all started when I suggested Nimmi to be included among your original list of top heroines. Well, Nimmi was among the top heroines based on the criteria of being paired with the top Hero, Dilip Kumar, in so many films.
