Farhan Akhtar´s 30 crore ´Lakshya´ released this Friday (June 18, 2004). Coming straight after the success of ´Dil Chahta Hai´, the success of ´Koi.. Mil Gaya´ with the same Hrithik - Preity pair, Mr. Javed Akhtar returning to script writing after ´Main Azaad Hoon´ after 13 years and with Amitabh Bachchan thrown in, the opening of ´Lakshya´ being good specially in Metro´s and multiplexes was a foregone conclusion. Giving ´Lakshya´ company will be ´Raghu Romeo´ a movie basically made for and aimed at the niche audience.

Verdict - The opening weekend of ´Lakshya´ will be excellent and the collections will be best from the multiplexes and also from the single screen theatres at the Metros, but being a very expensive film it will have to sustain for at least two weeks with good collections. The performance will not be on the same level even from the cineplexes at the smaller and medium centres. The collections from Monday onwards will determine the outcome of ´Lakshya´.

´Dev´ and ´Girlfriend´
Though ´Girlfriend´ was being supported by a section of the trade, always patronising pornographic movies, it opened to dismal collections almost
everywhere. ´Dev´ though not on the same league as Nihalani´s earlier ´Ardh Satya´ opened to a good response in Mumbai (about 85%) and a decent 50-60 percent in Delhi City. The opening was below par at some circuits.

Verdict - ´Girlfriend´ made on a very small budget, may find favours with the section of the society it is aimed at. ´Dev´ being a 1 cr/territory movie will at least be an average from here specially because of the good to decent weekend.

Aan -Men At Work
The movie had a good opening but Firoz Nadiadwala´s strategy of misguiding the audience once again (after ´Hera Pheri´) by chopping off reasonably popular and publicised songs and replacing them with the so called ´item numbers´ got him the cat calls and whistles from the lower stalls, but succeeded in keeping away the families after the first few days. Still the first week was quite reasonable keeping in view the movie.

Ist week collections :
Bombay - 81,12,903 from 22 cinemas ( 2 undisclosed)
Thane district - 9,83,898 from 4 cinemas ( 10 on F.H.)
Ahmedabad - 20,49,238 from 10 cinemas (2 unrecd.)

Ist week collections :3,68,09,770 from 134 cinemas(reported)
Ist week All India total (calculated) All India 7.30 cr - 7.35 cr

Verdict - Being an expensive movie with an average distribution price of around 2 cr per territory, ´Aan - Men At Work´ can at best hope to be an average (all India), but even for that a reasonable second week is a must. Will cross the safety mark in Mumbai, Delhi- UP, Bihar and Hyderabad Nizam and a few small sub-territories.

Hum Tum
´Hum Tum´ turned out to be rock-steady in its second week with very little fall at ´A´ centres, though the same cannot be said about even the good
towns of North India.

IInd week collections :
Bombay - 88,48,633 from 21 cinemas
Thane district - 10,19,627 from 3 cinemas (4 on F.H.)

Calcutta - 21,02,709
Nagpur - 3,88,064
Hyderabad - 11,69,524(gross) from 4 cinemas
Madras - 6,62,804 from 2 cinemas

IInd week collections : 3,67,57,685 from 90 cinemas(reported)
Two weeks All India total (calculated) 10.65 cr - 10.75 cr

Verdict - Given the low production cost of ´Hum Tum´ it is not only Saif´s first solo hit but may even become his first solo superhit.

Main Hoon Na
The movie continues to give good collections even in its 6th week and the lead actor cum producer Shah Rukh Khan had thrown a party earlier this week to celebrate its success.

6th week collections :

6th week collections : 59,39,383 from 61 cinemas(reported)
Six weeks total All India (calculated) : 33.25 cr - 33.30 cr

Verdict - ´Main Hoon Na´, already an all India hit is now progressing towards a superhit status but for that we have to wait and watch.
