Talented actor Ajay Devgan whose role of Micheal Mukherjee in ´Yuva´ was rejected by the audience and criticised by the normally patronising media has made the actor more careful .

Not only did it expose his limitations as an actor but what was more damaging was the fact that Abhishek walked away with all the accolades .

Recently , he informed that " After ´Yuva´ I will be more careful while choosing my roles as I know exactly what the audience expect from me ."

Meanwhile , the makers of ´Yuva´ recently held a press conference to "prove" that ´Yuva´ was not a failure .

*** IMHO, Devgan is WALKING ON VERY DANGEROUS PATH! His choice of roles, seems he is grabing every thing what comes his way for money! From Khakee, to Masti, To Yuva!! He is on the way to DOOM! IMHO!If he will try to replace, Mukesh rishi, Johny lever in the films.
We will very soon start seeing him like Jackie Shroff as SIDE KICKS, a la DEVDAS and Side Kick to SALLU too!! It is TERRIBLE and PATHTIC!

While I do agree that Devgan should not be taking sidekick roles, I think he is making a decision to take on a variety of different characters in order to not be typecast. AND THIS IS A GOOD THING. His role in Masti was very small but just DOWNRIGHT HILLARIOUS. He was obviously overacting to the max and just being a pain in the ass for the main characters - which was the point. While this role could have easily been done by Mukesh Rishi yes, it was even cooler for some one as big as Ajay Devgan to play the role. It went with the surprise factor of the movie. The audience was probably thinking where the heck is Ajay in the film... and when he finally shows up, they would be either hating him or laughing at him - which was the point for that movie.

Now Khakee - I think it was just SO AWESOME for Ajay to play the evil villain without any positive shades at all. It was surprising to see that and not only was he a total badass in the film, but it also added to the overall star value of the film.

OK up next - Qayamat. Look at that - Ajay Devgan was the main hero of the film yet he didn't even appear till the first hour and when he did, he doesn't even mutter a sentence of dialogue until the final scene of the movie. Again the audience was wondering where the hell is Ajay, and then thought that Sunil was hero of the movie. It is only after Sunil dies that Ajay takes over. And both actors were awesome in the movie.

Hmm... what else. Bhoot. Ok this was a supporting role as this was totally Urmila's showcase yet he added to the star value of the film and did a good job in his role.

In Chori Chori he played the typical romantic lead and did a good act in it. His more traditional roles were in LOC or Yuva and he did an excellent job in both films. In LOC, the movie was crap... but the story primarily focused on Abhishek Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan and Ajay Devgan. And Ajay was awesome.

Yuva - say what you want about the film, but I LOVED IT. And no, Ajay had the best role in the movie and I think he performed it to the best of his ability. Abhishek's role was that of a typical bad guy. Yes he did ok in the film, but seriously guys, Manoj Bajpai did it so much better in Satya. Ajay's role was typical, but he was very believable (once you look past the age factor). He mouthed his lines really well and every time he made a fist, you could honestly believe he'll punch the living daylights out of his opponent. And that final fight was just awesome - how many of you were rooting for Abhishek???

And lets not even discuss Legend of Bhagat Singh, which is quite possibly one of his best performances ever (and one of Indian cinema's finest performances).

So all in all, Ajay Devgan is doing very good IMHO. Yes he shouldn't take sidekick roles and I don't want him to be relegated to the sidelines like Jackie Shroff and (unfortunately) Sunil Shetty. However atleast each of his character is different from the last, unlike - ahem, Shahrukh Khan.

I am not saying, how he did those!!

Those roles!! Never demanded an ACTOR of AJAY's calibre!! Any LALU/PUNCHU might have done that!

Ididnt see any thing special in his ROLE in MASTI? But did enjoy LARA DUTTA's sp appearance!!though! Oh, Yes!! He indeed LOOKED VERY UGLY though!esp, Police Inspector waering LOW RIDE JEANS and HIGH RISE SHIRTS! It was PATHETIC!! Who wants to see AJAY DEVGAN's SCARRED BELLY or SUNIL SHETTY's STOMACH????LOL

In Khakee!! I must ADMIT, IMHO, every one was overated including AB, real MAN OF KHAKEE was AJAY..I thoroughly Enjoyed his each and every minute of his presence! but ANY GOOD VILLIAN could have done that role, Why Ajay?

If U think, He is enjoying being variable as side kicks!! Then, it is his prob, If Jackie is Great doing SALLU/GOVINDA side kicks!
Then AJAY will be MAHAN too!!

I dont give a damn, next he should do, johny lever's role and get slapped by heros, like CHAMCHAS!!

I dont think, FATE of AJAY is to become CHAMCHA NUMA actor!!

But if every one likes him like that!! I dont have any problem with it!

LOL!!!!!!!!!!

just the thought of Ajay Devgan as chamcha like Johnny Lever makes me laugh... but then again he did do "HUM KISISE KUM NAHIN!!"

I agree with u that those roles aren't up to par with his calibre.

Ok - let's look forward to RAINCOAT. I'm pretty sure that he isn't playing SIDEKICK to Aishwarya Rai (and she can't act for shit so I"m really hoping Devgan is the main character!)

Also in Tango Charlie, Ajay isn't the main character, but he is the main character's master/trainer so it looks to be an important role. Plus his role does really look cool in the trailer.

And don't worry man, when Prithviraj Samyukta comes.. you will see that Devgan will get one of the best roles in his career. The whole movie is based on him and he will give a much better performance than SRK did in Asoka.

My! My! arsh bhaiya quite an outburst of sentiments. I would not like to see him do sdekick roles either! However, lets face reality here we are talkng Bollywood here where every film made must have a love interest for the actor. If we go by past results every male actor that past his prime and still hang on to acting is either type cast in a sidekick role, uncle or father!

Let's also not forget...Indian audiences (as evident in this forum) are more interested in the lives of movie stars than the merits of a film.
