Bollywood's summer season is beginning to heat up with major releases lined up over
the next two months.
Last week's release, Mani Ratnam's Yuva is part of a multilingual project on the
scale of 20+ crores, the Hindi version of which cost around 12 crores to complete,
and which sold for 2.5 crore per territory, thereby putting the producer in table profit.
The Tamil version, labelled Aayitha Ezhuthu, starring Surya and Madhavan has
recieved bumper collections. The Hindi Yuva too has scored good opening week
numbers, with metros highlighting. 2nd week bookings however are not as positive.
In sofar as distributors of the film are concerned, the hindi version looks
to be earning proposition for some distributors while not so for others.
This week's release, Saif Ali Khan - Rani Mukherji starrer Hum Tum, made on a paltry
budget of 6-7 crores could cross bulk of its budget from just a handful of centers,
going by the bookings the film has received going into its opening weekend in Bombay,
Delhi, and Pune. Certain theaters are booked for the week.
Earlier last month Shahrukh Khan had a delayed project release in Ye Lamhe Judai
Ke. This month, it's Akshay Kumar's turn with the release of Police Force on Friday.
Opening for Police Force has been so-so but expectations will kick up a notch
with next week's release of Aan, which also stars Akhshay Kumar in the lead role.
