A division bench of the Madhya Pradesh High-Court has banned the movie Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham taking strong exception ----- Guess for what??

The order was issued following a writ petition filed by Mr. Choksey. The court has also directed Dharma Productions to pay Rs. 15,000 each to the petitioner to cover the expenses incurred by him in fighting the case. Orders have also been issued to exhibitors and television channels to restrain them from screening the film.

Is it for that silly scene where the national anthem is sung by the kid and everyone stands up?

It was silly of Karan Johar to put that scene in the movie and it is silly of the MP High court to actually consider the petition and ban the movie. :nopity: :baaa: :bangbang:

Exactly.

Now they should ban MP High court as well, for sillyness. LOL.

Too many people with too much idle time on their hands. As for the silliness of this whole thing, isn't everything Bollywood does silly any how? They ought to rename Bollywood to Sillywood if you ask me.

The Indian Government is freakin stupid. Don't they have any representative ambassador to the National Board of Film Censor's? They should have picked up on this flaw even before the film released. It's a little too late to ban a film that's already claimed Super-Hit status worldwide where many have already profited off of the films "supposidly" misrepresentation of the Nations National Anthem.

From what I heard, the fact that people in the movie itself stand up is fine, but something like the fact that other people in the theatre don't stand up to salute the national anthem?

Whatever, at this point, they can ban the flick for all I care. Why such an uproar over such a letdown flick like K3G? :nopity:

The court verdict is out now.

‘No disrespect to anthem if it's part of a movie’:SC

NEW DELHI, DHNS:

The Supreme Court on Monday ruled that audience in cinema halls need not stand up if the National Anthem is sung as a part of a movie, documentary or newsreel.

An appeal was filed in the Supreme Court by Yash Johar and Karan Johar, producer and director of Hindi movie ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’ against a Madhya Pradesh High Court order asking him to delete the National Anthem part from the film or withdraw it from cinema halls across the country.

Allowing his appeal a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice V N Khare, Justice S B Sinha and Justice S H Kapadia agreed with the Centre’s clarification in this regard issued separately and said that there was no need for the audience to stand up if ‘Jana Gana Mana’ was sung as part of a movie, documentary or newsreel.

Both the director and producer had submitted before the apex court that the National Anthem being part of the movie, the audience was not required to stand up and it did not mean disrespect to the National Anthem.

So, that's why Vinod Chopra included the hindi sub-text at the end of 1942-A Love Story, requesting the audience to stand, whilst the national anthem is played.

I'd agree with that. Bollywood is becoming too silly now, even though it was always a bit silly. The comedians like Johnny lever arn't funny, but more stupid than anything else. I'm not born or living in India, but I can't understand how people in India don't tire of the nonsense in some films. Hollywood films can be silly too, but India takes sillyness to a next level. I can see why very few ever got through to oscar nomination list. I mean, wern't they putting forward Andaaz not too long ago?

As for the scene in K3G, I didn't like the scene where they played the national anthem and I usually like patiotic stuff. The way it was done was not right.

A year back I watched a Telugu film which took the piss out of that scene in K3G. I can't remember the film's name but it showed some white and black schoolkids from switzerland (from what looks like a school trip) standing up to the Indian flag outside the embassy and singing very badly to the national anthem. One of the embassy workers can't take it and puts on a CD then turns on the voloume. The Oh Podu song from Gemini starts to blare out and everyone on the street starts to dance in "Indian ganna" style.

It was really amusing dispite the scene being intentionally silly...I mean what are these kids singing the national anthem for and where did they learn the words to it!!!
