Vivek-bashing is a favourite past-time in the film industry. Almost everyone seems to have a sniggering opinion on him. But why does Vivek Oberoi incite such intense hostility among his colleagues?
And why is his life currently besieged with peril? Last year he fell off a motorcycle while shooting for Mani Ratnam’s Yuva in Kolkata. A month ago he fell off a horse during Subhash Ghai’s Kissna. And now on Saturday a wagon fell heavily on Vivek’s leg – the same one that had been shattered just a year ago!
"For a minute I thought that leg was gone. It turned out to be a grossly dislocated kneecap. Everyone rushed forward with their own panicky solutions. But I‘ve a knack of remaining calm during crisis. The leg looked more damaged than it actually was."
Vivek himself put the bone back in place. "Considering it was a heavy iron wagon the damage could’ve been irreversible. Fortunately nothing was really damaged."
This is the third major accident he has suffered during the last one year. As a matter of fact Vivek has been going through a series of major and minor accidents during the last one year. Many of these aren’t known to people outside the Oberoi residence.
In fact so intense and incessant are the mishaps in his life that there’s a growing feeling among Vivek’s concerned circle of family and friends that some elements have been employing black-magic powers to bring about Vivek’s downfall.
Just who are these people? And exactly what do they hope to achieve by causing the young actor serious physical damage? Vivek brushes off these uncanny chain of accidents in his life.
"I don’t think about it too much. Even now when I was so close to disaster I didn’t panic. Those around me did. Yes, the accidents have been recurring and I know there’s something macabre happening to me. But I don’t let it get to me. My mother has always taught me to think positively. I do my work, I depend on those who love me. And I pray hard. I know God is with me. As long as I have Him on my side nothing can harm me."
"As long as I‘m doing well for myself personally and professionally I am fine. It gives me great pleasure to bring happiness to people. I did it in Masti and now my Cola ad is a great hit among kids. Everywhere I go they shout, ‘Walkaow’. Their love will keep me from harm’s way."
But there’s a growing feeling among those close to the Oberois that someone or some people are out to harm Vivek grievously. The question is, who? And why?
