Meghna's tribute to Gulzar
It can't be more befitting than a daughter penning her dad's memoirs. Respected lyricist and noted writer-director Gulzarsaab's daughter has deliver something special. Meghna Gulzar has written an exclusive biography on her father, the lyricist and celebrated writer Gulzar. The biography titled "Because He Is…" is a 182 page memoir tracing Gulzar's struggling days to his inception in Bollywood. Strangely enough Meghna Gulzar has not kept anything from view; right from her childhood days to her growing up, Meghna has highlighted one and each.
After Meghna Gulzar's FILHAAL, she didn't have much time at her disposal, as she started working on her second project MEHFOOJ. So, how on the earth she got time to write "Because He Is…"? Meghna feels that she didn't have to think about it, as writing was a very easy task for her. The thoughts were provoked into writings and Meghna didn't have much problem in penning down the thoughts, since they were with her from childhood. Writing has instilled a belief in Meghna. She is going to continue with her writing skills.
Meghna Gulzar doesn't mind of the rumours of her using her fathers name to sell the Biography. Her father on the other hand forced Meghna to pen down his memoirs, since he felt that she wouldn't be taking any artistic liberties. The publishers Rupa & Co. were also keen to see Meghna working on the project. Gulzar just laid before her the photographs and thoughts and Meghna just had to put them in writing. The lyrics of the songs penned by her father and renowned lyricist Gulzar epitomize the essence she has attempted to capture in her movie.
Meghna Gulzar doesn't view the Biography as a comprehensive study of her dad Gulzar. She feels that it would be a mammoth task to put Gulzar's career before the people. Meghna has tried to portray the life and activities of her idol. But Meghna Gulzar doesn't mention her mother's activities in the movie. Screen goddess Rakhee Gulzar didn't like anything of that sort, however Meghna Gulzar would like to write someday something on her.
Though a Delhi journalist is writing a treatise on Gulzar's films, it remains to be seen whether more and more influx are going to come soon. Jaya Bachchan along with Khalid Mohammed had written "To B or Not to B" on her husband Amitabh Bachchan and found during the course of writing: shortage of materials. Hopefully Meghna Gulzar's Biography will usher more and more Bollywood personalities to pen down their memoirs.
