I was browsing the net and came across an MGR film called "Enga Veetu Pillai". According to the Internet source the film is exactly like Dilip Kumar's Ram Aur Shyam and features the same director and crew. I need to know if these films was shot in sync or if they were remakes??

The Telugu version Ramudu Bheemudu must have come first, but I don't know if Enga Veetu Pillai was made concurrently or afterwards. The following site is all I could find.

http://www.zdag.com/movieDisplay.jsp?movieID=2471

A successful Hindi remake of Chanakya's equally successful Telugu film Ramudu Bheemudu and the Tamil film Enga Veetu Pillai. Dilip Kumar plays twins separated at birth who grow up to become the timid Ram, who is terrified of villain Gajendra (Pran), and the boisterous Shyam. Even their respective girlfriends Anjana (Waheeda Rehman) and Shanta (Mumtaz) get confused by the resemblance. Things take an interesting turn when Shyam lands up in his brother's place and discovers what his brother has been suffering. He then proceeds to make Gajendra's life miserable by wreaking havoc on his well-laid plans to usurp all the wealth that is in Ram's name. Naushad's melodies include the lively "Aayi Hai Baharen Meete Zulmo Sitam".

As far as I know (from having read previous articles etc) RAM AUR SHYAM was a remake of a movie from down south. In fact the credits of the movie will show that the crew of the movie is largely south indian. Whether the original movie was Telugu or Tamil I have no clue. For sure no movie was made simultenously. RAM AUR SHYAM followed the other two.
