Here!! Is First review I saw:
(((CHUPKE SE..just a SWEET BREEZE IN THE DESERT)))
Chupke Se !!
By Joginder Tuteja
The inlay card of Chupke Se has a brief description about the movie starting with the sentence - "Be careful what you wish for it might just come true". Ya, this is indeed right as same is with the case when one looks on the album credits and finds the names - Gulzar and Vishal Bhardwaj, you do wish the musical sore is smooth, soft and entertaining Ok, so rest of the credits do sound pretty new - debutant director Shona Urvashi and the leads as Masumi (who is also her sister) and one film old Zulfi Syed (Pyaasa). They are supported by veterans Rati Agnihotri, Om Puri and Tinnu Anand.
Supposed to be a breezy and a light hearted entertainer, Chupke Se begins very well with 'Kehte Kehte'. Sung by Ashaji and Lucky Ali (who is very selective while singing for Bollywood songs), it is a very melodious song with good lyrics by Gulzaar saab. A heart warming number, you can feel the love around you. Yet another good number by Lucky Ali here !!! The album takes a wide turn here from a melodious number to a fun filled masti track - 'Kafi Nahi Jo bhi Hai' from here. A song about 'I want everything', it is a jazzy number by Alka Yagnik which gets on well after the first hearing itself. Sung by Alka Yagnik, in terms of overall treatment, it resembles one of the lesser heard songs - 'Socho Kya Karogi Bolo Kya Karogi' of 'Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karoga' (which was also composed by Vishal Bhardwaj !!). Due to the no-holds bar rendering by Alka Yagnik, this number will especially be liked by children!!
Continuing with the fun mode comes - 'Jeele Jeele' by Ranjit Barot, KK and Alka Yagnik. Mainly about living life to it's fullest, it is catchy and sounds nostalgic (similar to the numbers in 1970s), when heard repeatedly. A good song again. 'Dildara' - composed by Ranjit Barot and written by Abbas Tyrewala is a number in sufiana andaaz and is the only number in the album which sounds filmy!! Nevertheless an entertaining track again, it has Gayatri Iyer and Zubeen in full throttle. A love song, it may turn out to be one of the most recognized number in the movie if picturized lavishly.
After three continuous pacy tracks comes the best number of the album - a soft'n'silky love song composed very beautifully - 'Koi To Ho'. Highlight of the track is it's simplicity and the way it has been sung so very well by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. A very good song, it is one of the better love songs composed in past few weeks.
Song - 'Kajrare Nainawali. Singer - Daler Mehendi. And you wear your dancing shoes and get the disco lights on !! Hey, but hold on. Surprise surprise, because what we hear is something we are not used to hearing - Daler paaji singing a full fledged classical number in sufiana style (another one after 'Dildaara') . It is a plesant surprise to see the other side of Daler. A number about the appreciation of a girl with beautiful eyes, this may not be sung by everyone just like 'Koi To Ho' or 'Kaafi To Hai', but will be very easy on ears !!!
The music of Chupke Se comes at a time when remarkably different kind of music is hitting the store. For every Chalte Chalte, there is a OOPS !! For every MPKDH there is a Mumbai Matinee. So, this album will also find a market for itself - though 'Chupke Se' !!
Rating: **1/2
